You've heard those stories they tell about me, right?
About me being a vampire, or a demon, or an evil warlock, or something like that. About me being a malicious spirit, a walking skeleton eight feet tall. About me being an ancient (or even immortal) creature sleeping somewhere below the city.
Stories about me being so immenesely powerful and so fearful...
Well. None of them are true. Now you know it.
I'm just me. Nothing more, nothing less.
Just a lonely elf, who was given this power randomly. I was unlucky, you see. I was born at the day of Eclipse, when the 'black sun' rose, covering the bright day with darkness...
No, actually, you know what? It wasn't even that poetic.
Just an eclipse, a celestial event. Not even the rarest one, especially considering our lifetime.
Some human warlock came to our village that day. I don't know what the elves have done wrong to anger him. Maybe he was just insane. Mentally ill or something.
So he came, declaring a one-sided war to us. And he summoned a spirit... some forgotten God of Death, maybe... and...
Well, he didn't make it. The elves killed him, before he could do any harm to the villagers.
Except, the spirit he summoned, it didn't have anywhere else to go.
So it ended up in me, the newborn. With all its power.
And that's how I became the infamous Necromancer.
Can I speak to the dead? Yes, and sometimes I wish I could have a moment of silence, without all those whispers and whimpers at the background. Dead people can be pretty annoying, you know?
Can I raise dead from their graves so they could serve me? Yes, I can, but I'm not going to. Right now I don't need any servants or, God forbid, slaves. It's not like I want to take over this city, so the dead minions are pretty much useless to me so far.
Can I take your life if I want to? Well, yes, I certainly can. It's easier than you think. Your whole body is... ticking. Your time is limited, and I can see very clearly how to make that time even shorter. I can see all the illnesses, all the weak spots, all the pressure points. Just one little push, and all of this will gladly fall apart, so quickly, so ready for decay, a beautiful song of universal Enthropy embedded right inside your very being...
But don't worry. I probably won't do that to you. Yet.
That's the truth. I'm Ionah, your friendly elf. I'm you shy bookworm-adviser you can always turn to, if you need any help. I'm the Necromancer.
I'm Death.
A little advice?
Run, if you hear me singing.
