For those of you who have never seen the Halo TV show then be warned here are MASSIVE spoilers relating to all things Masterchief and the world in which he lives. I was worried the TV show would ruin the games for me but the show was a Masterpiece in my opinion and worth watching even if you've never heard of Halo.

EPISODE 1

Silver Team Alpha is deployed to Madrigal where the Covenant are attacking a mining settlement. When the dust settles Masterchief realises there is only a single survivor - a fiesty wounded juvenile female. John discovers the origin of the Covenant attack and is drawn to the alien artifact and clears the area before he touches it and a powerful blast of energy is produced. On board his ship, John 117 provides first aid to Kwan only to discover a kill order has been issued by the UNSC. For the first time since he could remember, John refuses to comply and transports Kwan to the only person he could think of - his old unit member Soren 066.

EPISODE 2

Soren introduces his family to John and Kwan. John begins to question his decision to stay instead of escaping the Program years ago when Soren did. Soren encourages John to remove his emotion control pellet to see what he has been missing out on. Upon talking to one of Soren's prisoners John discovers the significance of his link to the artifact. John leaves Kwan behind and returns to Dr Halsey and the UNSC.

EPISODE 3

John informs Dr Halsey that the artifact is actually a keystone linked to a massively powerful weapon the Covenant want more than anything. In order to be reinstated to active duty, John agrees to a technologically advanced AI Upgrade called CORTANA but is none to impressed upon meeting her and discovers she can speak into his mind. Silver Team is ordered to test the artifact but John can only access it when Cortana is not in control. Riding the flood of memories upon touching the artifact, John realises he can now access memories of his life before he joined the Spartan Program. Cortana, with prompting from Dr Halsey, helps John remove his pellet which brings a flood of more memories - there is actually a 2nd larger artifact near his childhood home.
Kwan persuades Soren to return her to Madrigal by appealing to his greed.

EPISODE 4

Dr Halsey, her assistant Adun and the Masterchief travel to Eridanos 2 where John finds his childhood home. When he enters the house, Cortana helps John make sense of his memories by superimposing images so he can navigate his surroundings. John finds the place where his disapproving father buried his childhood drawings of the artifacts and remembers finding a 2nd larger artifact. John is suspicious when Dr Halsey informs him Eridanos 2 was abandoned due to a planet wide plague.
On Madrigal Kwan attends her father's funeral and discovers the Resistance has dissolved and Vinsher's men are becoming increasingly violent to any opposition. Kwan follows her father's path by agreeing to journey into the desert.

EPISODE 5

While the UNSC worries that John will recover yet more memories about how the children joined the Spartan Program, John locates and accesses the larger artifact on Eridanus II and learns the whole ugly truth. John realises Kai has also removed her emotion regulator pellet and sidelines her. Furious, John attacks Dr Halsey and CORTANA shuts him down completely. John and Makee meet for the first time and are immediately drawn to each other. Makee is returned to her jail cell.
Kwan manages to get away from Soren to complete her mystical journey.

EPISODE 6

During the trip home to UNSC headquarters, Masterchief traps Dr Halsey and only just saves her in time - Halsey realises John knows everything about the origins of the Spartan Program so she plots the best course to manipulate John on their return. John is given permission to test Makee with the artifact and when both touch it at the same time, they are transported to a tranquil place of beauty. Halsey is arrested and charged with illegal practises and her machievellan manipulations begin to be revealed. Dr Miranda Keyes is given Stewardship of the Spartan Program. John tells Kai 125 about their origins.

EPISODE 7

Kwan's journey across the desert of Madrigal leads her to an all female group of mystics who are unsure Kwan is ready to learn the secrets of Madrigal but Kwan's determination allows her a try. After countless fruitless attempts to fight the visions she sees, Kwan finally learns to accept what is before her and finds herself at an ancient portal where she sees a procession of her ancestors culminating in her father and learns she is now the latest Protector of Madrigal's secrets - her family's ancestral duty. Soren finds Kwan at her family's now deserted outpost but so has Vinsher and his henchmen. Kwan convinces Soren she has a plan but he needs to allow them to enter the compound first. At the last moment, Kwan sets off a massive explosion that envelopes everyone else (including Vinsher). Soren receives his payment and then some and returns home. Kwan vows to continue where her father left off.

EPISODE 8

John is given permission to take Makee on a heavily guarded walk to a park where she experiences bauty and families and begins to question her loyalty to the Covenant. John and Makee make love but are spied on via CORTANA by Dr Halsey who recognises she can leverage their bond by manipulating them both. Dr Halsey is charged with numerous charges and is sentenced offworld. Dr Halsey initiates Z PROTOCOL and orders the Silver Team to ignore all other orders and to bring John to her on her ship but CORTANA severs all ties with Dr Halsey and instead helps John and Kai to escape. McKee is blamed for everything and is tortured by her captors. Visions of her violent traumatic childhood and her current torture reinforce her bond with the Covenant so she grabs the artifact and emits a powerful incapacitating blast of energy while calling down a Covenant ship to steal the artifact and rescue her.

EPISODE 9

The remaining Spartans Riz and Vannak are ordered to bring John in alive but incapacitated by both John and Kai convince them that Dr Halsey was the one behind their kidnappings as a child and have been manipulated masterfully their entire Spartan career. Halsey appears to be fleeing but Kai brings down her ship and delivers Halsey to a Tribunal where she is sentenced to death. After Dr Halsey suffers a catastrophic series of seizures and passes away, her daughter Dr Miranda Keyes is the first to suspect they were duped by a Halsey clone.

CORTANA helps John sift through his many artifact driven memories and discover John now has the coordinates to the Covenant Holy World where the 2 stolen keystones were taken to. With both the ship and the Spartan Team barely making it to the planet alive, they drop down and assess the situation. Without warning, masses of Covenant troops come pouring out from under ground so the rest of the team provide cover while John attempts to access the keystones. Before he can get there, Makee saves John by accessing the keystones but is killed by the treacherous Overlords. In order to save everyone, John asks Cortana to take over so they could retrieve the keystone without activating it.
Upon their return important questions are left unanswered - where is Dr Halsey and will John be able to resume the primary position in his body?
