In the vast reaches of history, thousands of souls have been lost to the wrath of the sea. As their bodies sink into the murky depths, their souls become lost, doomed to wander the black abyss at the ocean floor for all eternity.
Sometimes, however, fate intervenes. Fate, or a bored sea witch.
Merana called to seven of these wandering souls, drawing them up out of the murky depths. Their long imprisonment had left them fragmentary, barely more than wisps, but by fashioning them together with her magic, she was able to give them enough strength to sustain life and consciousness once more. With her hydrus magic she forged the merged souls a body, and gave it the name Dust, for from dust this creature had risen. Then she let it go, darkly curious to see what this amalgam soul would do with its new life.
Dust does not remember the previous lives of the souls within his body, at least not as more than occasional snippets and fragments in dreams. His only true memory prior to awakening is of the dark abyss at the ocean floor- seven torturous eternities of wandering in the dark. Still trapped in that realm in his collective subconscious, Dust is completely blind, his souls unable to find their way out of the dark. He does his best despite this, however, and has learned to navigate relatively well by sound and touch. He is acutely aware he is not supposed to exist, and that his "mother" only roused him from death for her own entertainment, but Dust is determined to spite her and find a place to truly be happy and belong.
The most recent person to find their way to the haunted library, Dust isn't sure how to feel about the ghostly human who runs it or her visitors and tenants, but seeing as it is a safe place where he can live until he sorts himself out, he has graciously accepted Shinko's hospitality.
