He'd just come in front the front lines, surveying the damage as his programming demanded. He had exactly 13,106 images stored on his hard drive and not a single one of them didn't show destruction or blood or terror in some form or another. He was a machine, he was just nuts, bolts, and programming. He wasn't meant to feel anything. Hell, he wasn't even supposed to identify as 'he'. But somehow, he did. As a survey drone for Yun Enterprises, he was sent out to battlefields to report on casualties and damages. He'd been to exactly 83 different conflicts since the day he had been activated.
He waited in formation with the other drones until his designation was called, whereupon he glided over to the waiting terminal to upload his findings. This was the good part. Because once those images were uploaded to the Yun systems, he would effectively forget them. He waited patiently, not giving away any emotion, just hovering with the usb cord attached just behind his head. He waited for the chime to indicate the upload was complete...but a second later, a different sound emanated from the machine, sending a man in a white lab coat to the station.
"Another glitch? Just great." He pulled the usb cord out and frowned. "Seems a shame to send you to the scrap pile. Eh, you're just a machine anyways. And a glitch at that."
Something whirred in his head. The programmer called him Glitch. Did that mean something was wrong with him? He knew he was different than the other machines, with the feelings, the identity. But...the scrap pile...that would mean being deactivated and the end of...everything. The programmer reached over to open his side panel, to input instructions. Instructions to go to the scrap pile. Instructions that would mean the end.
The drone whirled away from the human, his eyes glowing bright blue. An alarm went off, flashing red, the other drones immediately landed to stay out of the way. The man below pointed a remote at him, fruitlessly pushing the buttons as the drone whirled about, looking for a way out. He looked up. A team was fixing one of the skylights that let light into the huge hangar. He shot towards it at full speed, ignoring the alarms and the shouts. He burst through and flew off as fast as his copper wings would take him. He wasn't sure where he was going, but he wasn't staying here. Wasn't going to do their bidding anymore. Didn't want to see their wars and the horrors they brought. And he sure wasn't going to their scrap pile to be incinerated just for being a glitch. In fact, he decided on a whim, Glitch seemed as good as anything to be called. He didn't care for G.590.1 Recon Drone V.6 anyways...that didn't really have a nice ring to it. So Glitch it was. Goodbye Yun Enterprises and hello new life!
