Mushrooms. They are delicious, full of nutrients and fiber, and sometimes they are poisonous! But the poisonous part doesn't matter to Gus at all - he's immune to the poisons from his years of eating basically nothing but shrooms. That's Gus, short for FunGUS, by the way. He'd like to joke that he's a funGUY, really (fungi, get it??), and he is, but he's also very, very slow, both in movement and speech, so most get bored before they get to know him. In fact, there are two reasons the poor guy even has mushrooms and other fungus growing on him - one, he is very slow and it gives the spores plenty of time to attach and grow, and two, mushrooms and other fungus are his favorite food - they are both delicious, and they do not move so he can easily 'catch' them. The situation works fine for ol' Gus - when he doesn't feel like getting up and looking for other mushrooms to eat, he simply turns his head and noms one right off his own shell. He doesn't even mind if others take a nibble from time to time (although honestly he's too slow to do anything about it anyways, other than grumble), although he would appreciate it if someone would ask before all of a sudden munching a random fungus piece off of his body!
