♡ Jǫkulsárlón

Firstborn and eldest of the hrímþurs Savvun, ex-Ásgarðian, the queen Laufey’s soldier.

The very first exposure to Jǫkulsárlón which Skaði experienced came at the height of his keenly awaited escape from Ásgarðr, pursued by the Æsir gods. In the collateral damages at the behest of their hunt, Skaði attempted her own escape from her captor, only to be confronted with perhaps the single most dangerous Æsir, Þórr. Under threat of the hammer, Mjǫllnir, as much as its wielder, it was then that Jǫkulsárlón intervened with abandon. Howsoever grateful, Skaði acknowledged her fellow hrímþurs wore the ensemble of an Ásgarðian, and therefore feared both assailant and saviour.

Having sustained injuries, consequently succumbing to a loss of consciousness, Skaði reawakened in the care of Jǫkulsárlón, suffering losses which she could scantily fathom. Unsure of the cause, suspicions extended to her rescuer, effectively doubling her fears. Over the course of her healing, Skaði struggled to accept events and continuously fought Jǫkulsárlón’s hospitality and goodwill, making attempts more of escape, and eventually succeeded.

With time, Skaði re-encountered Jǫkulsárlón, himself looking much the same as she once did. After a spell of hesitance, Skaði pitied him, collected him, and nursed him back to health, returning the favour. The two would grow to bond over the course of a journey to heal from startlingly similar traumas, until a vulnerable romance developed which could never take full bloom.

Hrímnir/Dúrnir

Skaði’s only surviving child, her beloved living keepsake of the late Jǫkulsárlón.

Skaði took with Hrímnir shortly after her lover, Jǫkulsárlón, was discovered by Þórr in reintegrating with her despite her marriage to Njǫrðr, and the agreement of living in in Þrymheimr, Jǫtunheimr at the time. Upon returning to Nóatún, Ásgarðr, it came to Njǫrðr’s notice that Skaði began to behave bizarrely, only later therein divulging thus that she had conceived by another whilst in their previous living arrangements. Despite this, he knew well that their marriage was yet another assimilation orchestrated by Óðinn, and therefore pledged his support to her rather than to reveal her.

Skaði bonded with her baby long before the birth, yet for the survival in the home of the hunters worried desperately, such that when she began to labour, she fled, against of the cautions raised by the wise Njǫrðr. Shy of escape, Hrímnir was earthside. Paranoid still, Skaði was confronted with the decision either to stay, to take along her own, or ultimately to leave her, come what may. Having failed the children before her, Skaði mournfully declared herself unfit for motherhood and elected to abscond, though prayed for her newborn, and that the evening of birth would not be the onliest of their meetings.

Forsooth, Skaði was allowed visitations to her daughter after it came to her in-laws’ attention that she suffered terrible heartache for the late father of her child, and they saw fit that she cherish his legacy through his flesh and blood, their precious Hrímnir.
