A God of War hardly needs to apologize for killing.

Before he was a god, he was a soldier of Sparta. Doing his duty was a credit to his honor, despite the many debts he acquired that would be due and payable to the God of Death. Plenty of the ones he killed were legitimate threats, to mortals and immortals alike. It could be said that these were acts of public service.

Then there were those actions of which he was not proud. His actions in Greece, the destruction of Mount Olympus...it had all seemed justified at the time. Zeus, his own father, had proven a false god unworthy of the millions who worshipped the supposed "Lord of Lightning". The depths of Kratos' anger could not even be measured in mortal words...it would take new words created from the Well of Wisdom.

Then there were the deaths that would forever be black marks on his soul, stains that no amount of accomplishment could wash away. He had been the cause of death for his wife and daughter, though he had not realized at the time the harm he would cause. His second wife Faye had been an undeserved blessing, his son Atreus a blessing of even greater magnitude.

Kratos and Atreus had journeyed together to release Faye's ashes on the wind, that her spirit might be free.

He's had enough of glory. Now he seeks a quiet life with his son, a chance to bond and grow closer. He even set aside his pride and allowed Atreus to teach him how to read and write in ruins. (A feat of no small amount, for a god who was once known for his rage and impatience.) He has started to build real friendships with the likes of Brok and Freya, using their names instead of barking out titles such as "boy" and "dwarf". He has even started to develop a real sense of humor (albeit one dry as a horn of ale freshly emptied).

Yes, Kratos has truly worked hard to turn over a new leaf.

Unfortunately, gods are rarely left to their own devices for long in a world where the greatest honor is finding some god or goddess to challenge.
