Personality

Radicalised by and beholden to avenge his half-sibling’s death—turns the guilt of the first worldly tragedy into fuel for his ambition, and is soon lost in a spiraling obsession for revenge for which he expects others to share in. Disillusioned with the gods and begins to respect them less and less. Staked his claim to a seat of power and refuses to release from it.

Óðinn

God of gods, king of the Æsir pantheon, ruler of Ásaheimr’s Ásgarðr, header of the war.

When the gods rejoiced in the miracle of primordial creation, the eldþurs wept in mourning the loss of his onliest relative, from whose bone and blood borne the nine realms. Left radicalised by the first worldly tragedy, his profound guilt was conformed to the spark which then would consume him in an obsession for requital. Lacking crucial foresight in the moment, Óðinn had destined his and all of the gods’ doom in an catastrophic event which would come to be known as Ragnarǫk, headed by Surtr.

With the pantheons, Surtr grew increasingly disillusioned and has especially little tolerance particularly with Óðinn, yet is well disciplined between self-control and compulsion to act.

Þórr

The firstborn and eldest son of Óðinn, prince of Ásgarðr, volatile and ceaseless jǫtunn hunter.

With hostility deep-seated and unprecedented, Þórr’s wild and violent hunt intensified come Surtr’s displacement to Miðgarðr. With disarming the eldþurs bull of Elderstaahl, the fiery sword of Ragnarǫk, the god was tasked; he was given the clearance to fell him, the same, and was ever the eager to stake his claim to the head of Múspelheimr’s lord. Given many an encounter, it was proven that Þórr relished in “playing with his food,” so to speak. Contumaciously, Surtr survived, and so forth the rivalry burgeoned. Father grew increasingly obstinate and defensive when, too, his son was placed under threat of the very same torture, and would weather that which was imposed on the boy.

Þórr exemplified what a parent’s abuse of their child yielded, and perhaps inadvertently, sowed the seeds to Surtr that he might relent on punishing Eldr.

Eldr

A son born of the union of Surtr and of Sinmara, one of innumerable others.

Where into Surtr’s mold most fit, and faded into the background therein, Eldr’s nonconformity left him invariably spurned, and under threat of disposal. Else, only by interference of the gods was Surtr forced to tend Eldr in the wake of displacement to Miðgarðr. In the purgatory of survival, it fell to Surtr to protect and to raise his child, or otherwise to fend for himself. Likewise, father and son were bestowed the opportunity to engage, one-on-one, exposing flaws and strengths.

Through their shared hardships, the distance between of them was bridged.
