Who Is "Johnny Blaze?" Aka The Ghost Rider?

Johnny Blaze is a fictional character of the Marvel Universe. Created by Gary Friedrich, Roy Thomas and the artist Mike Ploog. His first appearance was in 1972 in the comic book Marvel Spotlight #5. The character was originally designed to be a villain for the Comic Book Hero Daredevil called Stunt Master. But as the character developed from an Elvis inspired jumpsuit it was clear that the creation could stand alone as a fully developed character. Thomas and Gary decided that the now renamed 'Ghost Rider' was too good to simply be a villain.

Johnny Blaze was not the only person to retain the title of Ghost Rider but rather he is a Ghost Rider. Other characters have been giving the same status and title of this legendary hero, most notably Danny Ketch and Carter Slade (whom was later changed to Phantom Rider). However in the current comic series, Blaze is once again the biker of legend.

What are his powers/abilities?

Blaze’s powers come from his soul being bonded to the spirit of Zarathos, a demon who was tricked by the devil and has a personality of his own. This endows Johnny with being able to change into seemingly cursed being, a skeleton rider who’s mythical powers are quite strong. Blaze is also one of the best stunt cyclists in the world.

The Ghost Rider: At a Glance

Demonic Transformation:
The Ghost Rider is a result of the mortal Johnny Blaze being bonded to a Medallion of Power that contains he demon Zarathos. It is bonded to him permanently and cannot be removed. The Ghost Rider appears as a flaming skeleton, a seemingly mystic being that can control fire and hell fire in whatever form it takes. As the Rider he also has superhuman strength, stamina, durability and speed (while on his motorcycle). Though his physical appearance changes drastically to the Ghost Rider but when returning to normal, it leaves Blaze unharmed.

Hell Fire/ Fire Control:
The Ghost Rider is able to conjure and control Hell Fire, in any form as he sees fit. Hell Fire is a mythical substance that not only burns the flesh but the soul as well. Damage to the soul is often experienced as some sort of emotional trauma.

Super Strength:
The Ghost Rider can lift or press around 25 tons in strength. Thanks to his superhuman stamina he does not tire from such actions as such his strength or ability to be strong never decreases.

Super Durability:
The Ghost Rider is immune to most forms of physical harm in various forms. Bullets often either pass through or bounce off his skull, extreme pressure or temperature seems to do nothing to him. The Rider has been documented to take large amounts of damage and appear completely unharmed. The only weapon that have proven to harm them are those from heaven itself.

Super Stamina:
As the Ghost Rider, Johnny's muscles do not tire giving him unlimited stamina. This allows him to just keep going no matter what the situation.

Incorporeal Realm Travel:
Johnny, being a mystical being can travel between worlds, be it heaven, hell or otherwise. As the Ghost Rider this does not harm him.

Mythical Immunity:
The Ghost Rider is immune to damage caused by any magic attacks that are designed to specifically target a person with a soul, the death spell, for example, has no affect on the Rider.

Regenerative Healing Factor:
Though the Ghost Rider can be damaged by heavenly objects, he cannot be killed. Any damage done to the Rider is almost instantly healed or regenerated even if his body is blown apart he can reform via mythical energy.

Hell Fire Endowment:
Johnny is able to touch an object (or person, in theory) and endow them Hell Fire. This transforms whatever he is touching or holding to a "Hell" object, completely under his control. In the example of one of his guns, it becomes altered physically and has a seemingly unlimited amount of ammo, given it shoots Hell Fire. This process is only temporary, when the Ghost Rider is not present the object reverts to normal and is unchanged.

Equipment:

Hell Cycle:
Johnny, as the Ghost Rider, is able to convert a motorcycle to that of one that is empowered with his Hell Fire. He can also create a bike out of the fire itself. The bike itself is seemingly mythical in nature and can move on its own to him or do stunts the mimic Johnny's own abilities. The bike is able to travel on air, up straight vertical surfaces across water as well as several other feats that are impossible for a normal motorcycle. The bike is always follows by a trail of fire emitted from both of its wheels.

Hell Chain:
Draped around the body of the Rider is a chain that has magical properties. Generally it is around 3 feet long if left unaltered. Johnny is able to manipulate the chain in several different ways. He can make the chain as long as he chooses, contort it into other shapes and even separate the links and hurl them at enemies, which always return to the Ghost Rider's hand. The chain has also proven to be near indestructible. Johnny has completely control over the chain and its actions via his mind and can alter it as he sees fit. The chain can also cut through almost any substance without damaging itself. Johnny is also able to spew chains from his mouth, thereby creating the chain itself.
