Cillian is a gorgon. He slept in stone for one thousand years, before being revived by the dark wizard, Fedlimid. Owing the gift of life to him, Cillian swore his fealty and became a guardian of the 6th gate. His duty was to turn any man who crossed him to stone; if they should outwit him, then they were allowed to pass.

The last Good Soul to pass him was the sorceress Althea, who came in search for aid. Cillian, being under oath to Fedlimid, declined her. Althea placed a hex upon him which broke his bonds to Fedlimid, and forbid him from using his gifts for evil. Having once again found salvation by another being, Cillian turned to Althea as his mistress, and became her apprentice. Fedlimid still calls to him, and it is only Althea's strong magic that keeps him at bay.
