Sting
Legacy Name: Sting

At first glance, Sting appear to be a very unremarkable Illumis. She belongs to a hive of over 50,000 other Illumii, and every day she must scour the lands for flowers and collect only the highest quality nectar for the hive. Indeed it would seem that Sting is just an ordinary Illumis going about her day-to-day business, but in reality, Sting enjoys a secret double life.

It all started on what seemed like any other day. Sting was flying through the forest in search of flowers when suddenly she flew head-first into an enormous Chai. She fell to the ground and the Chai placed his huge paw over her body as if to squash her. Sting braced herself for what was to come, but instead the Chai scooped her up and held her at eye level.

"I have decided not to kill you, little Illumis," the Chai said, "but I want you to do something for me in return."

Sting nodded frantically. The Chai continued,

"I want you to bring me honey, every day, for the rest of your life."

This greedy Chai was asking Sting to take a huge risk, stealing honey is strictly forbidden, but she had no choice but to accept. The Chai thanked Sting for her cooperation, and released her.

The next day Sting waited until most of the Illumi had left the hive before grabbing some honey and quickly flying back to where she had met the Chai the previous day. The Chai was waiting for her with a jar held between his paws.

"Put the honey in here." The Chai ordered.

Sting did as he said and dropped the honey she had stolen into the jar. The Chai thanked her, and just as she was about to fly away, the Chai asked for her name.

"My name is Sting," she said hesitantly.

"I'm Chive." The Chai said. "I look forward to seeing you tomorrow."

Every day Sting would steal honey and every day Chive would be waiting for her, and so it continued for many weeks. Sting couldn't quite work out what exactly Chive was doing with all the honey, he was presumably eating it, but why Illumis honey? Chai commonly tear apart Bumbus hives in search of honey, but it's rare for them to attack Illumis hives because a sting from an Illumis is far more dangerous. There can be no denying that Illumis honey is superior to Bumbus honey, but Sting had never imagined Chai as being so picky.

One day after delivering Chive's honey, rather than flying back to the hive, she secretly followed Chive through the forest. After a while he arrived at a clearing filled with hundreds of other Chai who appeared to be cooking. How wrong Sting had been! Not only were Chai particular about food, but it seemed they also enjoyed cooking.

Chive placed a chef's hat on his head and began preparing food at a nearby table, subtly adding the Illumis honey whenever nobody was looking. It soon became clear that Chive was the best chef in the forest, and his secret ingredient was Illumis honey.

The next day when Sting delivered the honey, Chive held out for her a small piece of cake.

"I knew you were following me yesterday," Chive said, "and I wanted to bring you some honey cake that I made."

Sting was speechless, but reached out and took the cake from him.

"Thanks to you I am now a celebrity among Chai, your honey is the best and I'm the only one who can get it. Thank you for helping me."

"You're welcome," Sting said whilst taking a bite of cake, "this really is delicious, you are a very talented chef."

Over the years the pair have become good friends, and continue to meet every day, but now it is not just Sting bringing honey, but also Chive bringing for Sting samples of all the wonderful dishes he has made thanks to her help.
