Many have wandered the frozen tundra of Arctic Frost in hopes of finding the precious ingredients used to make glacier potions. Few, however, have lived there, like Jayne. It's not the best place to live, and she couldn't even offer a complete explanation for why she did. She simply felt... calm, at home. It's not very hospitable, and the cold was certainly bothersome at times. There wasn't much to do, and rarely was there anyone to interact with. That didn't mean that she was lonely though, not all the time. The extreme distance from civilization was rather peaceful. She spent most of her days sitting in the snow outside her little hillside den, relishing the silence and basking in whatever sunlight was available. Some days it was sharp, glancing off of the ice caps, and some days heavy snow clouds muted everything to an oppressive gray. Some days the winds would scream through the mountains and glacier crevices. Those days she simply stayed inside, sleeping comfortably, completely free from obligation and responsibility. She was a free individual.

Jayne had grown up in a relatively cold area. Not as fierce as Arctic Frost, but abrasive and secluded just the same. Her memories from that time were relatively positive, which is most likely the reason why she had moved to Arctic Frost, further away from civilization and into the wild, when it became time to strike out on her own. There was no particular reason for it, she just decided to continue living the way she was used to. She never had any plans to leave, and most of her fantasies revolved around simply staying there forever, completely cut-off and on her own. She was self-sufficient, and her own philosophical musings were enough to keep her mind occupied. Somewhere in the midst of this lifestyle though she became a little selfish, perhaps even haughty. She became convinced of her own superiority, and couldn't understand how others were so needy when it came to using social interaction to placate themselves. Being so withdrawn had skewed her perceptions.

She never once thought about leaving, until the humans began invading her peace. It was a large enough territory, but they just kept bumbling into her area, ill-equipped for the extreme weather, asking her to help them find their potions. As if she were there only to help them and it was unfathomable that someone would live there just to live there. That was when she realized that, as much as she could not understand their needy inclinations, they did not understand her willingness to so distance herself from the rest of the world. No matter where she went, she could never truly escape it. That revelation was what made her decide it was time for a change, before she lost the chance forever.

She went to Riverside Valley to try and experience the things she was avoiding. It was extreme, and no amount of mental preparation could properly prepare her for the trauma to her senses. There was very little peace for her to find living among so many individuals. It wore on her quickly, despite the realization that the experience was helping to broaden her understanding of the world. A few of them took pity on her, like Harvey. Others simply chose to poke fun at her discomfort, which only furthered to heighten her feeling of superiority. She would not lower herself to their level... though that really just made her seem even more haughty. It's a learning process, for sure, and the real lesson will hopefully pan out soon enough.
