Personality: Reed had some sort of trauma in his past, because of this he has emotional issues. He comes off as cold and heartless and he rarelydisplays any concern for others, preferring to spend time with machines than with humans. Under all that, though, he’s a very lonely, unhappy man.

History

Reed's mother died of tuberculosis when he was very young and his father was never an affectionate man. As soon as Reed was old enough, his father sent him off to apprentice for a trade. His first few apprenticeships fell through due to his lack of aptitude for the work or his antipathy for his fellow apprentices or masters, and each failed apprenticeship strained his relationship with his father further. Finally, his father sent him to a mechanic to learn how to repair and maintain machines and Reed finally found his calling.
Due to his issues with his father and his mother's early death, Reed doesn't trust people and has a hard time connecting or empathizing with them. He's very awkward in social situations and much prefers to be around machines. Machines make sense to him and are easy to work with. People are baffling and often react unpredictably.
Reed worked closely with the military during the war and helped design some of their ships. Recently he was stationed at a military base and met Julieni, a renown pilot and the captain of one of the military's best ships. Reed was assigned to Julieni's ship and the dashing captain managed to work past the mechanic's anti-social personality.
Once Julieni finished serving his years in the military, the captain and Reed set about fulfilling a dream they both shared: their very own airship. Reed designed the ship and put it together with the help of his contacts and now he and Julieni run a messenger service in their swift 40 ft airship, Swallow.

Due to his introverted personality, Reed has few friends. Most notable is, of course, his lover Julieni, but he is also close friends with a well known inventor, Griffon.
