The sedge has withered from the lake...

The woman walked among the port as if she were wading through waist-deep water full of sea urchins. Each step was smooth, calculated. Her eyes were an unnatural blue and her hair was a wild, damp brown, accented by a deep maroon bandanna that wrapped around her head and under the midline of her hair.
On the left side of her face, a scar ran vertically from her hairline to her chin, distorting her features, but flawing them in an almost pleasant way. The eye seemed unaffected, almost too perfect.
A long, maroon vest hung loosely over a deep teal undershirt. Black, heavily stitched pants tucked into black boots with dark brown tops. Three silver necklaces hung from 'round her slender neck. A pendant dangled from the longest necklace, but what ever the design, it was lost at such a distance of sight.

The female had a determined, yet serene look upon her face, her lips curled into a tight, taunting smirk.
It was obvious she knew what she wanted.
But what was it?
Her eyes roved the port, eying each and every person that ambled into her line of sight.
I felt a cold chill pass down my body, and I swore I could smell this woman. She smelt of sweet lilies, and underneath that sweet scent was the sharp smell of sea water.

I was frozen in place, but she continued wading through the crowd. I couldn't tear my eyes from her; I was in awe.
A vague thought bubbled to the surface of my subconscious, but my tar lagoon soon enveloped the warning, and it was gone.

Our eyes locked, and I was lost at sea.

...And no birds sing
