The Sorcerer Halls were a testament to the unorthodox creativity of those who had built it. It was a slender castle built of the nearby plum-colored strong porous rock that was prevalent this close to the Opalight Ocean. Over the years it had faded some, the upper, twisting spires were mottled and cracked, open as they were to the sands blowing in off the lavender coast. Further down to the south is the Opalight Ocean. North, by the Halls, the water is teal and pink but the further south you go they turn into fuschia and tropical purples. It seemed that the water must have been higher eons past, the way the land was often stained in similar colors as the ocean's restless waves. There is a road which turns from inland and then begins to run parallel to the coast. It runs in between the sand dunes and small trees and billowing, hardy grasses, until it reaches the sands and the sea at the end of a lonely, open peninsula. The Sorcerer Halls are set behind a bluff that hides it from the road, it's nestled among great dark plum-colored rocks left by the sea. Behind it, the trees and dunes turn into sandy scrub grass and beyond that are pastel sands and the waves of the ocean.
Sorcerer's are powerful, unlicensed users of magic who are born with magical abilities and also supplement those with other, usually unsanctioned practices. They are not evil or bad as a necromancer is, though their reputation has proven them to be dangerous. They are officially unsanctioned by the Wizards Academy but they do have their own guild, membership is voluntary, one may be a sorcerer their whole life and never visit the Halls. The number of sorcerers known to exist is a topic of controversy. If a mage ventures into sorcerery they'll most likely go back to their safer path of study very soon after. It's not an easy course of magic, though it can be multitudinous in it's payoffs. It can however also lead to awakening darkness in a person or corruption. After all when one begins blurring a line, how far can you go before you're somewhere else completely, someone else even?
The Halls were built 75 years ago by the greatest sorcerers in the world. They also had the greatest confidence and the most willpower and focus. They brought together a conclave of the best and together they raised the Halls and created the guild. It was a place where they could come together to pool knowledge or gather research. Sorcerers are also a great deal like inventors however, and tend to be solitary, avoiding others who might steal their ideas and delving into projects with little regard to anything else. The Halls, unlike those of the Wizards, echo with infrequent footsteps, and are sometimes even empty of a human presence. There are other presences at all times, invisible wardens and protections for those who enter. It's a place where the sorcerers can recharge if needed or work on their studies alone or with groups.
It's a quiet place except for the birds that fly in from the coast and the sound of the waves can be heard on clear days. From the highest towers you can look out with a telescope and see the ocean afar. The inside of the lean castle is sparely decorated but echoes the plums and lavenders of the rocks and sands around it.
Sorcerers are the creative, boundary pushing rogues of the magic world. They love creating and shaping, which can lead to beautiful or catastrophic results, capable of both the deadly and the amazing.
