They walked along the ruined roads of upturned pavement and creaking street lamps. The two viewed the smashed windows of the high raised buildings, even breathed in the smokey air where fire still lingered. However, the two continued to go deeper into this concrete jungle. Not really looking at where they had already past. One saw the destruction, the other only saw opportunity. Opposites in all ways, shapes, and forms. Had their cogs fit together so well that they would remain on the same path, just as they had walked into the inner city? No.
This is the story of Gouta and Disunity.

Everything began with just the two of us. Before the events there were more people in our lives but now they seemed nonexistent. We were dropped into the city of all places by force. I can't imagine why anyone would willingly choose this place, that is, until I glanced over at Disunity looking as if he scored the prized bird at a fair. I guess the two of us being friends for so long I was blind to what he was really thinking. That optimism of his seemed so bright. To bad it was a mask to hide his twisted intentions.

I knew from the quiet way he muttered to himself, while I worked on preparing a livable space, he was definitely missing something. When he brought up missing his family I couldn't refuse the task to find them. The city might be torn to shreds but that didn't mean it was the only thing still left. I told him I would go search, and that he should remain in our little fortress. The glee on his face was remarkable, but it was his eyes I was fixed on. They glittered like the long lost sunlight. I will admit, it was hypnotizing. We were never that kind of pair, which must have been the reason my gut wrenched at the tiny thought.

So I left. The city had been large and took some time to navigate out of, but once I found the correct path it was easy to maneuver around the neighboring area. The park had nothing for me. Both eerie and unwelcoming I didn't want to tread on its neatly trimmed grasslands for long. Then there was an area blanketed by snow. I may have had long hair in my Legeica form but that did not mean it made anything easier to withstand. In the distance, I did hear some ghostly howls coming from a large-mountainous lump in the snow. Never had I wanted to run and never look back in my life, not even after having lived in the city. This day onward I can hear a noise like scratching.

After several weeks being gone from my city I came across an area with a crisp scent and autumn leaves. Accompanied of course by the lethal feeling of homesickness in my stomach. Almost as if everyone of the other areas was trying to chase me back to the steel-gray place called home. The word beats with my heart but never feels right.

I could hear the sounds coming from my hooved feet echo between the houses. Everything had looked so peaceful I marveled at the beauty. I did feel a sadness, this area had looked as if it should have many residents. I couldn't seem to hear or see a single one. I changed back, it was easier to climb stairs and sneak peeks into houses as a human then a large horse. Cautiously I knocked open each one. Not knowing what would appear to lap my blood, of course I was guarded. The forth house I entered had loudly hissing floor boards, or were they whispering? I tried treading carefully but they seemed to melt under my feet. Dodging the disintegrating mess I somehow found my way onto the stairwell. Looking over my shoulder the floor seemed fine, now the well was melting.

Grand, some user was following me. I went over the stair rail back into the hallway, still whoever it was causing this mess chased me into the bathroom. I had shut the door loudly on it, foolish, yes. At the time though it seemed to have worked. I let out my feared breath and examined my surroundings. Not a large area for me to move around in, no window large enough to slink out of either. Oddly enough all the necessities were still intact. A lion-pawed bathtub, the toilet, an old fashioned sink and a mirror--
The mirror was shifting like fog.

I found her, just a piece of Disunity's family. There before me happily humming over a sink was Ensanguined. I would have liked to talk to her, be happy to see her again, but the floor was beginning to give way. In fact the entire house behind me had turned into a fierce dust. I snatched for Ensanguined, who only gave out a short gasp of surprise. The mirror felt like knives along my arms, only it wasn't cutting me. I yanked on her visage until it came out onto my side of the world, the house screaming a panicked "NO!" as she slide through.

The walls had already been torn around the toilet so that's where I fled to. Ensanguined was nestled in my arms the whole time without saying so much as a word. Maybe the mirror had paralyzed her? Tricked me into grabbing the wrong thing. I wouldn't have been surprised if the users power extended to that of knowing my wants. Several had such a thing. Once outside I thought whoever was causing the house to deteriorate would be stopped but I was wrong. As soon as I put Ensanguined down on the ground it began to crack and hiss. I turned back into a Legeica then knelt before her. "Get on." She looked so confused but obediently climbed onto my back just before the roads cracked pavement reached me. Again I was running, I could hear the ground splitting and giving way, but I made it out. Once back in the land of snow I heard a scream long and pained.

I didn't bother to stop or look back.

She clung to me the whole time. Not complaining or uttering a breath of irritation. I wasn't able to find his brother but Ensanguined would just have to do. One day, I told myself, I'd look in that area again. If whatever was guarding Ensanguined so well would allow me. Getting to the city took much less time then going to the house-lands. I reached home. Tired, back aching from my cargo, I walked all the way to the top landing with her perched cautiously on my shoulders. Come to find in the main room of our home I hadn't been the only one finding people.

Disunity was there with his clawed hand around a silver-haired boys throat smiling. A sick smile that made me move back to where I came from. A loud growl came from another male, red-haired and battered. Disunity dropped whoever he was holding and moved to me. "Ensanguined!" he dragged her from my protection, and I suddenly wanted nothing to do with him.

A pain twanged at my heart.
Why aren't I enough?!
