Outside my window is the quiet but incessant hum of the streets. The noise of passing cars and the shuffle of the evening party goers or moonlight walkers. There is the bark of a lonely dog protesting the night and the clang of shop owners empty the trash out at the end of the day. Everything is the same. Everything continues in a redundant loop as people move throughout life prisoners of, yet denying, the passage of time through overfamiliarity. A compliance built into our nature to always keep moving, keep going, rush here, hustle there.

When people stop and look at my sculptures, they are struck, not by the beauty or the detail. Not by perfect symmetry or invoked imagination. There are no dazzling colors that capture the eyes, or enrapture the soul. People are struck by the weightlessness of observing a moment freed from the endless grind of time. Images, positions, practices: all frozen in one single instant of time - preserved, as so many secretly desire to be. Legacy - to live on beyond the confines of time, and to escape from the loop of one's own cycle of life.

I have heard people claim that art comes from creativity, imagination and passion. I'm going to have to disagree with you on that. My sculptures are representations of reality, not some imagined wisp of a storyline that only I can hear. A dancer frozen before a spin. The leaf before it falls. A smile right before it fades. These storylines are everywhere in our normal lives; They are passed by un-noticed. I notice. I preserve. It's as simple as that.
