(STORY UNDER CONSTRUCTION - more coming soon)

Norm (full name, Norman) is your typical 26 year old run-of-mill kind of guy, gets up early for work, gets home late and often wonders if the pay check he receives every other week is really worth the monotonous misery he faces every day at work.

For Norm, "work" takes place in an underground government-funded facility responsible for conducting research into dimensional rifts. Although an extravagant sounding occupation to be sure, Norm's part within this job description, is not.

Norm is what he and others in similar professions refer to themselves as a "dispensable" an individual existing outside of the "core" scientific team. Their work consists of the mundane, inessential tasks associated with the research being conducted and includes such perks as less pay, access to a barely functional coffee machine, and a complete and utter obliviousness to the details of any of the scientific team's experimentation.

Within the facility, Norm works as a "Computer Technician", which is self-esteem enhancing speak for "IT guy". One part hands on, one part administration, responsibilities include running around at beck and call, debugging computers, installing softwares, turning various technological coponents off and on again and conversing with slow paced individuals about how to access the curious anomaly known as the "internet"

But despite his "dispensable"status, Norm finds himself assigned to the upkeep of the systems involved in the main research project being conducted at the time. From what he's able to overhear and understand while he worked, Norm surmises that they are working on trying to create a portal that would allow travel between parallel universes.

But then something goes horribly wrong.

One day, while Norm was working his shift, the scientific team successfully manages to create a portal.
Only it wasn't to a parallel universe, it was to something much darker, more sinister. Ultimately they somehow managed to open the gates...
to hell.

Although Norm and the team of scientists are swift to disable the machinery and close the portal, Norm feels that there is something wrong, and he soon discovers what it is.

There is a theory that every person has an "inner demon" which is ultimately kept at bay by the person's soul which acts as a sort of gate or barrier. This is what ultimately stops the demon from completely consuming a their thoughts and deeds. The "inner demon" is that niggling thought at the back of the mind, that tiny voice that dares you to cheat, tempts you to lie and tries to persuade you to take something when no one is looking. To put it into simple terms, it is a person's dark side, so to speak.

Now how pronounced someone's inner demon is, is entirely dependent on their soul gate. Usually an inner demon is only as evident as that tiny voice, easily ignored and overpowered. But sometimes, when a person experiences extreme emotions such as anger, their soul gate is weakened and their inner demon is able to slip out, more powerful and persuasive, making the person become reckless or violent.

Sometimes, for whatever reason, a person's soul gate can also become damaged and their inner demon becomes more integrated into their being, this creates people whom the world knows as murderers, thieves, vagrants, tyrants, dictators; those who are evil and sinister, who are greedy and selfish and often all too eager to take the life of another.

And unbeknownst to Norm, when the portal is opened, his soul gate becomes disrupted.
What results is that his inner demon is released, but not in the typical sense. Due to his exposure to the machinery responsible for the portal, Norm's soul gate has been altered in such a way so that his inner demon now co-exists in his body like an alternate personality. Norm still retains full control of his actions but if he lets his guard down or becomes too emotional, the inner demon can effectively steal control,
and Norm really wants to avoid that.

The inner demon resides as a now fully developed, intelligent voice inside Norm's head (not just a hinting thought, like as previously described in most people). It has full access to Norm's thoughts (which Norm deeply despises) and converses with him often, usually about the various short-comings of his life. The inner demon can also appear before Norm as a kind of apparition which of course only Norm can see.

All the while, Norm desperately tries to hide his newly developed "condition" from those around him, especially at work, lest they,
a) think he's crazy and throw him in a mental institute
b) think he's a freak and throw him in a lab for study
c) do some twisted mixture of the two
