We find ourselves in tales...
Dark. That was the only word for it. The room was dark. Too dark? It seemed decidedly unnatural. Kerberos flicked his six ears irritably in unison, the sound of his heavy paws thudding against the concrete floor the only sound to be heard. Too quiet too.
"Orthrus." Kerberos's middle head growled softly into the gloom as he came to a halt. In answer, another rhythmic thud of footfalls began. Sick of the darkness, Kerberos let out a bark, the room instantly illuminating to reveal a two headed dog approaching Kerberos from an excessively large break in the wall which appeared to have been blasted out. Each of Kerberos's six eyes focused on the creature, four staring back at him just as intently.
"Kerberos. So glad you could make it," laughed the two-headed creature who Kerberos had called Orthrus. His dark grey coat shone eerily in the unnatural brightness Kerberos has created, but neither dog seemed concerned by this.
"What do you want Orthrus?" Kerberos questioned with his left head, peering intently at Orthrus whilst the other two heads focused on various other parts of the room.
"Just to see how you are of course." Orthrus laughed merrily, the sound echoing off the dingy concrete walls.
"Much as I ever am in this land Orthrus." Kerberos replied dryly, snorting in irritation.
"Missing your master Hades then?" Orthrus said in a chiding tone, speaking as though speaking to a child.
"I. Have. No. Master." Kerberos shot back between clenched teeth. All three heads now faced Orthrus, all raised high, two with teeth bared threateningly.
"Now, now Kerberos. No need for the temper tantrum. I'm hardly the one to blame that Heracles didn't... quite get you home." Orthrus chuckled.
"At least, dear Orthrus, when he came for me I had the honour of being one of the most powerful guardians of the underworld. Of hell itself. You Orthrus? What will you be when he seeks you? A glorified cattle herder from what I hear. And at least I answered to a God. What of YOUR master Orthrus? Eurytion is but a shepherd, and you are nothing but a pet." All three of Kerberos's heads let forth a mocking laugh, forcing Orthrus back a step. The two-headed beast snarled vehemently, but still dropped back another pace.
"Just wait Kerberos. Your time will come. You answer to a human and a purple puppy these days. And I? I can pass from this world to our own at will. When will you ever see the flames of hell again Kerberos? Not till that meddling whelp Daigeil lets you, am I right? You will die here alone, and I will take your place in the Underworld the moment Hades realises you are lost." Orthrus snapped, turning rapidly and heading for the exit in a rage. Kerberos watched him leave, shaking each head in unison.
Alone in the dank room, Kerberos stood motionless. Without either head moving, a voice, terrible and awe-inspiring broke through the silence:
"He is doomed."
Note: I'm aware that slaying Orthrus was the tenth labour and Kerberos the twelfth, therefore their stories are switched around. But hey creative license.

Kerberos
Sir-bur-us
Kerberos is the dog of hell, guardian of the gates of Hades. In his former life, he prevented souls who had crossed the river Styx from being allowed to go back the way they came. Devious, clever and more than a little bit vicious, he was never a creature you'd wish to meet in the darkness.
But that was before Heracles
During Heracles's task, he captured Kerberos alive and brought him from Hades. Instead of returning him as the legend says, Heracles foolishly left him in the Subetan world. He was put under Daigeil's care, and it is Daigeil and his family who bear the burden of keeping Kerberos in check. Kerberos cannot leave and return to Hades until Daigeil permits him to. Although Daigeil understands that Hades is Kerberos's true place and that keeping him in Subeta is nothing short of monstrously dangerous, Kerberos holds a secret - a secret big enough to be worth the risk. Until Kerberos will reveal it, Daigeil cannot let him go. Kerberos, for his own part, has his reasons for staying put... undoubtedly reasons that are not pure in intention.

Contrary to popular belief, Kerberos's three heads do not have three mutually exclusive personalities. Instead each thinks as a collective, and what is seen by each pair of eyes is processed simultaneously, allowing Kerberos an amazing field of vision. Each does, however, have a very distinct voice and tone, and each has different natural perceptions. The left is best at analysing the past, the middle the present and the right the future. Kerberos switches between them depending upon which he feels is best for portraying something. The left head has a very mild-mannered way of speaking, so Kerberos generally uses it for persuading or trying to give the appearance of trustworthiness. The centre head is the one he uses most commonly, which is somewhat darker and more ominous than the left. It portrays a much more accurate reflection of his personality, managing to be frightening but not so much so that the victim is provoked into fleeing immediately, allowing Kerberos to complete whatever wicked plans he has for them. The right head is rarely used; it cannot be explained. Know only that if you heard it, you wouldn't live long enough to tell someone about it.
