Deep Waters

A bounding river once rolled through the hills. Butterflies landed on flowers in the meadow. A warm and pleasant breeze swirled around the minds and hearts of the inhabitants to the area. At the bottom of the river there was a lake, Lake Hope.

Lake Hope was where Fillet had resided for her entire life. She grew up in the soft waters and basked in the sun. Swimming all day and by night she would tell stories to the other Cybills who lived there. One day a human came. He brought warning to the creatures that lived in the lake, that something bad was coming. The earth and waters had been poisoned and all living things were to leave at once, or perish.

Fillet had flourished and thrived in the lake. The connection she felt with it was unmatched with anything else. For a while the residents of the lake lingered, hoping the rumor wouldn't come true. As time went on, it became clear that they would need to leave. The water became black and toxic gas started to rise from the ground. All living things either moved or died, except Fillet. The lake became a graveyard. From the waters at which she was born she found herself morphing into something that she couldn't recognize.

Over time the lake became worse and worse off. People occasionally stopped by to see the wreckage, attracted to the decay. The lake became a dumping ground for trash and even more chemicals. Fillet's skin began to boil and her flesh began to rot. Sometimes people would see her and jump back in fright, however most times she was camouflaged, as she melted away into the water.
