"Amour? You keep looking at that girl, just leave her your phone number already!"
Amour shook his head and looked back at his friends. He couldn't help it, the waitress was cute! He had never seen her working here before, which was odd because he came here quite frequently with friends.
He guzzled down the rest of his water as quickly as he could, earning a few knowing smirks from his two friends sitting across from him. He watched as the waitress grabbed the water pitcher and walked back towards their table....for the fifth time.
"Everything ok over here?" she asked as she refilled his water once again. When she had finished she looked up at him and smiled.
"Oh yes, everything is great!" said Emma, smirking at Amour's silence.
"Yep! Hey, how long have you been working here," asked Cassey.
"Not too long actually, I just started this summer. Do you guys go to the university?"
Amour watched as his friends started their conversation with the waitress, completely unsure as to how to join in. Before he could think of a witty comment to add she had grabbed some of their empty dishes and taken them back to the kitchen.
He didn't think he could drink any more water than he already had.
Emma and Cassey grinned at each other and motioned for them to leave. Amour stood unwillingly, waiting to see if the waitress would come back around before they left. She seemed to be busy with another table so he gave in and followed his friends to the register.
"Leave her your number," hissed Cassey. "She liked you."
"Really? You think she did?"
"Are you kidding? She kept looking at you and smiling the whole time. Yes, she liked you!"
Emma pulled out a pen from her purse and he eagerly jotted his number down on their ticket. He walked back to their table to find the waitress was there clearing away their empty dishes.
"Um...hey? I - uh. I wanted to leave you your tip!"
He hastily pulled out his wallet from his pocket and groped around for a few bills. He wrapped them around the slip of paper with his phone number and set them on the corner of the table before rushing off, beet red in the face.
He got the text ten minutes later while he, Emma, and Cassey were driving home. Emma and Cassey immediately started shouting, "I told you she liked you!"
He was grinning from ear to ear the entire night.
After two days of almost nonstop texting back and forth, Amour decided to ask Clarisse the waitress out on a date.
I was wondering if I was going to have to ask you out, was the response to his hesitant proposal.
Amour ran up the stairs to his roommate's room and proceeded to ask him for advice.
"Where should I take her? What should I wear? What if she'd rather do something else? I have no idea what I'm doing! You have to help me out!"
"Dude, calm down. It's just a date! Just take her to dinner somewhere, see a movie or something. You'll do fine."
Amour decided to take her to dinner. It seemed safe since he didn't want to go to the movies and worry about picking a movie she didn't want to see or vice versa.
As the day drew closer, Amour got more and more nervous. What if he said something that offended her? How was he going to get her to want another date?
The day arrived and everything seemed to be going wrong for Amour.
He was late to his class that morning, left his coffee mug on the counter, couldn't find the shirt he had planned on wearing to the date, and his car wouldn't start so he ended up arriving 5 minutes late.
Clarisse didn't seem to mind too much though, she smiled when he walked over to the booth they had been placed in and handed him one of the menus.
"I hope you don't mind, I told them to bring you lots of water," she chuckled.
And just like that, Amour knew this date was going to be just fine.
Five weeks later and Clarisse had gone out to dinner with him several times, been over to his house and met his roommates, been to one of their house parties, and they had been each other's first kiss.
She and Amour found every little excuse to meet up and see each other. They met after classes, after work, before work, for dinner...any free time they had they spent with one another.
Their friends often told them they were sickeningly cute together, often followed by a smile and a nudge from either Cassey or Emma, who would never let him forget they told him to leave his number.
