Salvador Dali

Born: May 11, 1904
Died: January 23, 1989 (aged 87)
Birthplace: Figueres, Spain

Dali was a surrealist painter, best known for the bizarre images in his work. He also dabbled in photography, fashion, sculpture, graphic arts, poetry, writing, film-making, advertising, and print-making. Dali's film-making collaborations included Luis Buñuel and Alfred Hitchcock.

Dali attended the Municipal Drawing School in Figueres in 1916, and
a few years later became interested in Cubism and Surrealism.

Dali married Elena Diakonova (known as Gala) on January 30th 1934,
in Paris. They remained together until his death in 1989. They had no children.

There are two museums devoted to Salvador Dali's work:

The Dalí Theatre-Museum in Figueres, Spain
The Salvador Dalí Museum in Florida, U.S.
