The sun was tiring, sinking down for a night's rest and allowing the moon its vigil in the soon to come time of darkness. Plumes of red melted with oranges and hues of pink, reflecting on the twinkling surface of the water spreading out across the area and far into the horizon. Gulls cried, echoing in the distance, scouring for last meals before taking their roosts.

A lone figure sat on a rock, the seat smooth and comfortable from past high tides. His fur was ragged and dusty from long travel, tail long and wrapped trailing behind him, spikes driving out of his spine at awkward angles, but, still, it seemed he was wholly canine in shape. Even as he held so menacing an appearance , he sat calm, a book splayed out in front of him as he read; his burning eyes trailing the words as waves from the ocean rose and fell in the quiet.

A sigh eventually escaped him and he looked up with those glowing eyes, a small smile overcoming his features at the sight of the sun still slowly setting.

"Is this it?" The telenine whispers to himself. "Is this what peace means?" He had thought he found it once. Not in death, but in what was his new beginning with the man that had brought him back from death. It wasn't as though he could remember his death, nor his life before, leading him to ask questions that he had never bothered with prior, such as; 'What was life?' 'And in that thought, what exactly was death?' Thalmus had been searching for answers now, walking the dusky, winding roads with nothing but a small pack at his side.

"Of all the money that e'er I had
I spent it in good company
And all the harm I've ever done
Alas it was to none but me
And all I've done for want of wit
To mem'ry now I can't recall ."

He felt his heart grow heavy, as it often did, at the thought of that man, Newt. There wasn't anyone to bring him back, of course. He had worked for him, followed him, and now life, if this is what you'd call it, had no room for him again it seemed. What was there left to do for such a thing as him, a 'Familiar'? What did he have anymore?

"Of all the comrades that e'er I had
They're sorry for my going away
And all the sweethearts that e'er I had
They'd wish me one more day to stay
But since it fell unto my lot
That I should rise and you should not."

Thalmus stood, closing his eyes as a cool breeze ruffled his patchy fur, taking a deep breath of the fresh ocean air around him. The sun was finally bidding farewell, everything growing steadily darker. He opened his eyes again; they felt tired and heavy, like the sadness in his chest. Another smile rose up on his face , this time a sad, lonely smile. He tried to laugh, a weak sound, packing up his book and preparing to go finally.

"Goodbye," He murmured one last time. He left, a small figure plodding in the night, trying to find the road to his endless journey.

"Fill to me the parting glass
And drink a health whatever befalls
And gently rise and softly call
Good night and joy be to you all."

"Long Time Traveller"

These fleeting charms of earth
Farewell, your springs of joy are dry
My soul now seeks another home
A brighter world on high

I'm a long time travelling here below
I'm a long time travelling away from home
I'm a long time travelling here below
To lay this body down

Farewell kind friends whose tender care
Has long engaged my love
Your fond embrace I now exchange
For better friends above

I'm a long time travelling here below
I'm a long time travelling away from home
I'm a long time travelling here below
To lay this body down...
