I know we've all been a lot, my friends. We've watched our friends, our brothers and sisters, die at in front of our eyes, beaten to death by the very police force that is supposed to 'protect and serve'. We've watched strangers crushed under the iron fist of our government and mourned for them. We have lost so much and gained so little.
However, I am not ready to give up. I wont bow down to such violence and tyranny. Will you, dear listeners? Will you step down from your posts as champions of a broken society? I surely hope you wont. I am so proud of you, brothers and sisters. I truly am. I hope that, together, we can keep at this, keep hacking away at the ankles of the giants until they fall.
No matter how many of us there are, we can still make a difference. Our voice has been heard around the world, across nations far and wide. They pray for us at night, to different gods, in different voices, but they pray for us and that is what really counts. They care for our well-being and yet, they don't even know us. That, my friends, is a very beautiful thing.
So I will not back down, no matter how many times they bomb the DMZ, no matter how many raids they perform on our homes, I will not let them win. If I die fighting, I will count that as a point in our favour, because, my very dear friends, I will not stop. I will continue to broadcast, I will continue to help you all in every way I can. I'll be there, standing on street-corners with bottles of clean water. I'll be there, patching up your wounds after a three-day protest.
I will always be there, my fellow protesters. Hazen will always be there.
There's a slight crackle of static as his words taper off and then there's music filling the airwaves. Its old, but cheerful and he knows his listeners will enjoy it, even if he does not.
With a tired sigh, Santiago Garcia leant back in his chair, lifting bandaged hands to rest over his eyes.
Five Months. Five long, arduous months. He was honestly surprised he was still alive.
With a groan that made him sound decades older than he truly was, he pushed up to his feet, padding across the ash-covered floor, over piles of rubble and empty bullet cases.
