Luscian lived off the coast of Louisiana, until the 2010 Gulf Coast oil spill changed his life. He found his way here, where he lives in the swimming pool behind the house with fifteen other pets. The oil that permanently dyed his scales jet black was supposed to kill him- but it didn't. He hates humans, blaming them for destroying his home. He ignored his owner for many years and still doesn't talk to most of the other pets. He speaks only to Lanai, who swims with Luscian every day, and Vetra, who tried tirelessly for many years to scrub the oil off. It didn't work, but she's remained his friend, and visits his pool whenever she can. The depression that's consumed him since the spill might finally be starting to end- someone left a carnival book by the pool, and out of boredom, he read it. Upon noticing the colorful facepaint that many Subetans wear at the carnival, Luscian got an idea. Is that why he's started talking to his owner for the first time in his life- and asking for art supplies?
