A Queen At Her Finest
White Queen was once named Selena before their tragic death so long ago. She was a nurse who served her little community proudly and was well loved by all who came into her care. Her gentle features brought folks such calm joy that she swore they did things on purpose just to get sick so they could see her! Haha! She did not judge though as she adored all her patients equally. Her childhood friend and fiancé, Salvador Dali, was quite supportive of her even though they didn't get to see each other much due to the career choices they made. He was an exceptional artist and she was proud of him for that. His work was displayed in shops and town centers and all sorts of places! They were set to be married once things settled down but unfortunately the pair would never get the chance as Selena had been deployed to help soldiers in a war she can't even remember the name of these days. The wounds these people suffered shook her to her very core and scared her even further. Still, she put on her gentle smile and kept her voice steady and calm so the soldiers would relax as best as they could. She and Dali would write letters back and forth for the couple of years she remained on the battlefield. She was also told he was commissioned to make propaganda pieces that he absolutely had no desire to make. Some were sent to the stations where she was located close to and Dali told her there was a secret in his that would identify his work. She truly did not need such a thing but decided to have a closer look at the ones she came across anyway. The common thing she found among some them was some sort of silver spear. When she asked Dali why he told her that it represented her and her tenacity during this nonsense war. How in times of duress she was both compassionate and fiercely loyal. How she did her job without asking questions and how much she truly cared for those on the front line. Unfortunately it wasn't long after she received news that Salvador had died after he was involved in a bad wreck. Devastation took over her mind and soul and it definitely showed while she worked. The others tried to distract her with uplifting words and encouragement but nothing truly seemed to appease her. Almost one year after getting the news she was quite distraught and wandered away from her assigned base and into the surrounding forest. She was still in her uniform though it was wrinkled and discolored from the work that day. The enemies in the battlefield took no time to wipe her from this plane of existence. Her eyes grew heavy and since her pain had become unbearable, she simply breathed a sigh of relief before passing on, he eyes fluttering closed as the sound of boots could be heard trudging to her. With her eyes closed she felt as if she was being gently tossed around in a calm tornado. She dare not open them for fear of finding herself in a realm she did not want to take any part of. It felt like an eternity had passed by the time she had come to a stop, feeling herself softly land on what felt like a marbled floor. Curiously, she opened one eye and took a small glance around. This place was surrounded by clouds and beautiful gilded marble colored structures. She was in absolute awe at the beauty of this place. Had she landed in heaven after all? Was her good deeds truly enough? Soon a figure appeared through the clouded area, standing on the same platform she had landed on. He appeared to be some sort of goat with wings. His bright blue design ad ornate golden glasses told her that he must be of some importance.
"Well hello there!"
"Hello?"
"You must be our newest Guardian! Nice to meet you. I am Inscribed! You can call me Scri for short though."
"Guardian? What do you mean?"
"It's complicated to describe. Sometimes a lost soul comes to Solaris after death and sometimes it's lost to the void."
"Solaris? Is that what this place is?"
"Yes! Beautiful, no? You must be our fourth member. Not many have made their way here it seems."
"I...I am so confused..."
"I can tell. Come. I'll get you registered and up to date."
Inscribed took her to his residential library to get her record squared away. The library was quite vast and interesting to look at but for the moment she focused on learning about her new surroundings. This place had existed for many years but apparently it was hard to reach after death since not many seemed to have that drive within them to be a guardian. When she asked why she was chosen, inscribed could not give her a solid answer as Religious was the one who may have wanted her there and Disciple was the one to physically usher her to their plane. They were the first and oldest of the group. She nodded and made a mental note to ask later. She then asked how many of them were currently here on Solaris. Scri checked the book and told her including the two he mentioned earlier and the pair of them, only one other was there. She asked to meet them too and he gladly took her up to the mountain where they stayed. When they came across the entrance and saw the figure as they were coming out, her eyes widened.
"Salvador? Is that you?"
"...Selena?"
"It IS you!"
"My dear it's been far to long."
Inscribed was surprised the two actually knew each other in their past lives. They explained that they were set to marry after Selena came back from her deployment but he had unfortunately died trying to save a child on the street from a nasty car crash and ultimately ended up taking the brunt of the destruction. Selena told them that she had succumbed to the dark depression she had felt after hearing about Salvador's death. She had tried to carry on and her soldiers did their best to cheer her up but nothing had come close to working. All she remembered was wandering into the forest and going to sleep. Salvador reported similar as he didn't truly "feel" the car hit him. He just felt as if he had gone to sleep. Inscribed chuckled and told them Religious works in mysterious ways. He apparently sees quite a few potential futures and will make split second decisions on if someone should be brought here or not. It's why he has Disciple now after all! The goat librarian left them be to catch up, the pair happy to have reunited. Years have since passed and Guardians have come and gone. Salvador still enjoyed painting but took up a sort of leader role in Scri's place since the old goat was getting tired. Selena received the name White Queen after taking the role of nurse again though more often than not she simply checked in on those who lingered in Solaris. Sometimes she patched wounds and other times she would bring nice meals to those who needed them. She soon had a gilded look to her, shimmering gold strings lined her body and her wings became pearly white. She also seemed to tower over most Guardians except for Salvador and Religious. Even Scri was surprised just how much she changed. She was just the compassionate Guardian that Solaris needed.
