"Even I am fastened to the past."

"And you?" The question had seemed so simple to ask the head of this estate. After all the interview you were trying to get had all come from this man. Unmitigated had remained silent for many more steps. You seem to be going down, and going down into the building was not at all comforting. Almost like being buried to early for your years. Not being one to go against his own code of conduct he began to speak to you in a low almost pained voice, "I originally came here for personal reasons." He had come here? That was strange. You were heavily under the impression that it was Unmitigated who built the foundation of the Asylum by himself.

You press, even though it feels like something is telling you- no asking you not to. Before the conversation continues you watch his hand intently. Learning by now if they moved before one spoke it meant trouble. However Unmitigated only slips it into his pocket to pull out something that glints under the dim lights of the underground. The object is blue in the center but has a rim and chain of silver. The chain itself acts like silk cloth and falls through the indent of Unmitigated's fingers. You watch him look at it with even more hurt then what showed in his voice, "This," he slips a finger into the opening of the chain and lets the pendant hang from it. You see now that it is in fact a little blue heart encased in a silver trim. The heart jewel rivals with the little girl ball in beauty. The insides even seem to swirl with some sort of power, yet it doesn't pull you in. The feeling emitted from Unmitigated held your focus.

With yet another pause he continues, "A little bobble from my our past. Do you know what it does?" You're left to gulp and only the hope that sentence wasn't a threat of some sort. Seeing you nervous as all hell Unmitigated smiles genuinely at you. "This does nothing. Only a reminder of why I'm here. However, it has given even myself more three things." You loudly breath out causing Unmitigated to gruff out a chuckle. "The first thing it does is bring back memories. The second thing it does is keep me company in my age. The final thing however is something you might think is unheard of," he stopped with his speech. Pulling the chain up until the heart rested in his palm again you feel something crawling up your leg. "Power, it is a strange word. This little trinket was given to me by my only love, my wife, Ensanguined."

You can definitely feel something thick along your legs and now its pressing your arms to you. Almost like your being bond into a straightjacket. For some reason you can't speak, and Unmitigated has become so focused on the little blue heart he doesn't notice you are in distress. The man continues to speak to you in a calm yet longing tone, "She gave this to me on the day before... the event happened. She told me to keep it with me so it will be like I was holding onto a piece of her heart. I only smiled and pretended to understand what she was talking about, such a kind woman." Your knees are forcibly buckled and you're forced to the floor in a kneel. There is no sound made because you do not fall quickly enough to make one. Unmitigated has paused his speech to stroke the gem, you feel the bonds loosen but not enough to do anything.

"I am here to protect the thing I could not before. That is the only answer I can give to you," he says this sternly. Clutching the gem and covering up its shining light the bonds around you disappear. Unmitigated finally looks at you while putting it back into the pocket it came from. "Why are you down on the floor? My little outburst didn't take that long did it?" You're left to look back at him dumbfounded. You can't even come up with a reply or gather the strength to stand up. "Come along we have many more residents and employees for you to meet. Down here you need o be a little more careful. The residents aren't quite so tame as the ones on the top floor."
