4:59am - He wakes up just before his alarm clock goes off. It's become a routine now; his body is use to waking up this early in the morning, every morning. Before he used to love sleeping in. He could sleep long into the afternoon, wasting the day away, and therefore leaving the night open for endless possibilities. It's different now that he's graduated...
Frazzled, he hits the off button on his alarm. It started buzzing while he was still "daydreaming", causing him to jump a little. Slowly rolling over under on the bed, his legs kick out from under the sheets and he stands up attributively.
6:37am - He checks the clock; it's time to go. Moving quickly through his tiny apartment, he grabs his coat and hat along the way. He slips on his old, black leather shoes and heads out into his floor's hallway. Looking out the window, he notes the stormy weather.
"Strange," he mumbles to himself as he enters the elevator, "It had been so lovely this past week."
He presses the button that will take him to ground floor and waits for the doors to close. There's a elderly women at the end of the hallway, asking him to hold the door opened for her. He pretends that he can't hear her; even though he knows, that she knows, that she is being blatantly ignored. He needs to get to work as soon as possible and beat the morning rush.
6:53am - He opens the large doors and pulls his hood over his head to shield himself from the rain. After careful consideration, he decides to walk down the street to the coffee shop, in hopes the lines will be short and he can grab a coffee before work. Weaving through clumps of strangers, he doesn't make eye contact with one of them. Instead, he grips his briefcase tightly and stares at the ground. Even in a city stuffed with people, one can feel very lonely. Entering the small cafe, he decides that the line is worth the wait and heads inside to get his morning jumpstart.
7:10am - The line took longer then he thought. As he mumbled something nasty about the lady in front of him with a large order, a middle-aged man began to chirp him about the importance of being polite. He pretended to not hear this man too, even though he was standing right next to him practically yelling in his ear. Finally, the line began to move again and he was able to get his regular, black coffee. He never added cream, sugar or any of that other stuff. Those sorts of things were simply too time consuming and frivolous. Exiting the cafe, he then proceeded in the task of flagging down a taxi, which can be quiet a difficult thing to do with both hands full. After three failed attempts, he successfully snagged from a mother and her young daughter.
7:26am - He looked forward at the clock in the front seat. Perfect, he would make it to work with a few minutes to spare. Settling into the backseat of what would be a long car ride, he peered out the window at the people on the streets. Everyone looked so dull in there gray and black rain jackets. Once in a while, there would be the occasional yellow jacket, and he would shake his head disapprovingly. He thought colours were a thing of the past, meant for children and not working adults. Most people these days anyways preferred the safety of neutral colours.
He noticed the taxi beginning to slow and wondered what was going on. Turning his head to look out of the window in front of him, his stomach dropped. The line up of cars in front of him was not budging, and wasn't for as far as he could see. There was no way in hell that he was going to make it to work in time.
