BattyKoda is a mentally unstable yet comical fruit bat who has been experimented on by humans and now has wires and antennas fused into his head. He found his way to the forest and met Crysta the fairy, they then became best friends. She and other fairies live together and take care of FernGully, the last rainforest.

Once the forest was descended upon by humans, led by a dark and evil spirit of destruction named Hexxus. They cut down many of the trees. The fairies and a good-natured human named Zak were able to stop Hexxus and encase him inside a giant tree. Since then the forest has recovered with the help of the fairies as well as the help of BattyKoda.
