Once upon a time, deep under the ocean's surface, there was a great kingdom called Astria. Its inhabitants were predominantly Ontra, though they were all peaceful creatures who lived in harmony, regardless of the nature or species of any who came to live within their city's boundaries. Its King and Queen smiled happily upon their kingdom, though sorrow filled their hearts, for they were unable to have children. As the years passed, the kingdom grew tense, as they knew the reign of their peaceful rulers would be coming to and end, and without their heir, the throne would be available to the first to claim it.

After the King died, the Queen fell deathly ill, and horrible creatures from all over the ocean came rushing to Astria to battle each other in fatal fashion, each winner taking on new comers every day. In her final days, the Queen called to her most powerful wizards and mystics for aid, but none knew the nature of their visits.

The day finally came when the Queen knew she was to die. She called to her closest friend, and no other, to sit with her in her chambers. As the Queen drew her last breath, she whispered a name to her most trusted friend, Leida, and slipped a tiny silver bracelet into her hand.
"Margorite?" Leida repeated, and looked questioningly the bracelet. The Queen nodded once, and fell limp in her bed.

That night a great feast was held in the honor of the new King, a terrible sea creature who was a descendant of the fabled Kraken, whose name was Rallick. None of the inhabitants of Astria attended; many felt the celebration was in poor taste, others couldn't bear the thought of giving praise to such a murderous wretch. Instead they watched as Rallick's numerous followers flooded into their city, ravaging their food supply and capturing their people as slaves for the castle.

It only took two years, and Astria became a war zone, where it seemed none were safe. Rallick's army would march through the streets, and would forcibly enlist Astrians to construct Rallick's massive castle, and if Rallick discovered anyone trying to flee his kingdom, they were sentenced to death on the spot. Many hid in fear amongst the rubble of their once magnificent and beautiful city, and waited for the day help would come..

While exploring the remnants of the castle that belonged to the former King and Queen, a young scavenger named Lit stumbled upon a beautiful, tightly closed clam shell with a "M" scribed neatly on its surface. He closed his hand around it and swam as quickly as he could toward an old, seemingly abandoned building at the end of the city. Inside was an aging Ontra named Leida, who waited with baited breaths for the return of her young son, Lit.

Lit flew through the door and went immediately to Leida's side, and proudly displayed the clam shell in the palm of his hand. Leida snatched it up gleefully, and held it close to her heart before placing it gently on a table under a warm ray of light. Lit watched in earnest as Leida carefully removed a small silver bracelet from off of her own arm, and laid it on top of the clam shell. Lit's eyes widened as the clam shell opened slowly, and a small pearl was shown. Leida bent down towards the pearl, and whispered something Lit could barely make out.
"Margorite..." she whispered, choking back tears as she recalled the moment her dear friend the Queen had whispered the same thing to her.

The pearl cracked once, and fell away into two halves. Inside the pearl was a tiny Ontra, with wide smiling eyes and a sweet smile. She watched Lit and Leida curiously as they inched toward her, but trusted Leida enough to allow her to hold her in her hand.
"Her eyes..." Lit said. "They are so beautiful."
"Margorite... some day you will save us from this hell..." Leida said.

The next sixteen years of Margorite's life were filled with almost nothing but training, most of which was accomplished through Lit. He was intelligent in the ways of battle, although not a warrior himself, but more skilled in the magical arts. Still, as far as trainers went, there were none better than he, and he was only four years her elder. He protected her, taught her as much magic as she could take in, and retold the story of her birth more times than he could remember. They took a break from training at night, and would brave trips to the coral forests just along the outskirts of Astria, and play games like tag and hide and seek. In more ways than one, he was her best friend.

"Wait up!" Lit called to Margorite as she zoomed in and out of the coral forest along the outer skirts of Astria.
"Come on! Faster!" She cried, laughing at the top of her lungs. "You can't catch me! I always win!"
"Come on, we need to train! Tomorrow is the day!" Lit called to her.
Margorite slowed down to Lit's pace, and clapped her hand into his. They stopped swimming and faced each other, both searching the other's eyes.
"You think I'm ready?" she asked, toying with the bracelet on her arm.
"Yes. I think you're ready. You've been training for this day since you were born."
"What if I let everyone down?"
"You won't. This is your destiny. You will deliver us from Rallick's reign, and you will rule over the kingdom in his place. Your mother willed this to happen. It was her final act, before she died."

Margorite slid her hand from Lit's and looked toward Astria with a heavy heart. She knew she couldn't let them down... Astria needed her. They needed their freedom. And Rallick needed to pay for his crimes.

The next morning Margorite woke early, staring out the window at Rallick's palace. It was lit up, as usual, as another of his wild, extravagant parties were being held. The city's people were starving, while he and his followers ate gourmet foods and treated Astria's people like slaves. She shook her head angrily and walked across her bedroom to a chest Lit had rescued from her father's chambers, and quietly opened the lid and inspected its contents; a pearl-handled dagger, a beautiful spear, and a wand she hadn't quite mastered. Still, she was planning to take it with her, in case she needed it.

"Your parents would be so proud..." Leida said to her as she looked Margorite over. "Armor in place, weapons at your side, you look like a warrior."
"Today, Rallick's reign will surely end," Lit said as he entered the room.
"I'll just go get the others ready," Leida said with a sly grin, and left the two alone.
"You look amazing," Lit said, approaching her side. "Like a true hero."
"I only look like one. To be a hero, I have to first save the kingdom."
"Margo, you will. I have no doubts in my mind that you will succeed today. I just hope you're ready for what's to follow."
"Ruling the Kingdom? I'm not ready for that. I've spent my whole life training to fight Rallick, not to rule the kingdom."
"We'll be there to help you..." Lit said.
Margorite smiled up at him, and took his hands into her own. They stared intently at each other, both searching for a signal of some sort from the other. Lit inched toward Margorite's face, and lowered his eyelids. She grinned, in spite of the events that lay ahead, and kissed him gingerly on the cheek.
"There will be time for us later," she said, and turned toward the door.

Out in the streets, Astrians gathered to watch her as she swam toward the castle. There was no cheering, no clapping, only somber looks of thanks, and nods to cheer her on. She acknowledged them, and swam on to fight and defeat Rallick, the most feared creature since his ancestor ruled the seas.
The castle rose up from the background as she swam faster and harder toward it. Her heartbeat quickened in her chest and her grip tightened on her spear as she approached the gates. Rallick cockily had no guards protecting him, he felt he was so feared and untouchable that there was no need. Just for that, she would be sure to twist the knife into him twice as hard.
She moved through the castle unseen; most of the creatures living in the castle must be sleeping off the night before. Though she had never been there, Rallick's chambers were very easy to find. He had statues of himself outside of his chamber doors, made of obsidian and encrusted with gems from all over the ocean.
Margorite slipped in through a small crack in a door, and closed it behind her. It was a darkened, windowless room; its only light source was a candelabra with three tiny stubs that were almost burnt out. She could hear the steady breathing of the terrible king from her right, and quietly crept in that direction.

His breathing quickened, surely he must have heard her. She froze in her place, and waited for what seemed like forever for his sleeping pattern to return to normal. Still, he was no fool. He could be tricking her...
Margorite rested her spear against the piano in his chambers and unsheathed the dagger from her side. Slowly, quietly, cautiously, she crept up beside him as he slept, and studied his face. He looked angry even in sleep, with sharp features, and jagged scars. He was still ruggedly handsome, which made her hate him more. She drew the dagger up to her chest, and aimed it right for his heart, and as she brought it down to his body, he reached up and smacked her out of the way with one swift gesture.
"So, you've come to kill me? You, a lowly she-creature? Hah! No, no a pretty little thing like you will be better suited as my own personal chamber maid..." Rallick growled, and advanced on her.
His own hulking figure towered over her own, but her hand was steady and her mind prepared. She couldn't let him see her eyeing the spear that was not but two paces to her right, and as he stalked toward her with his teeth bared, she dove to the right, snatched up the spear, and stabbed it through his chest. He roared in pain, and clutched his chest where the spear had gone in. Slowly, he pulled it out and tossed it to the side. His eyes rolled over white and he bared his teeth even more now.
"You're going to pay for that!" He yelled, and threw himself on her.
He had her pinned, and was reaching for the candelabra to hit her over the head with, when Lit appeared from behind Rallick, and gestured to the wand she had at her side. She snatched it from its holster and held it in her hand like a useless tool, yet Lit seemed to be insisting she use it. Margorite couldn't think of a spell, but the gaping wound the spear had left was exposed, so she thrust the wand into it and Lit yelled a few words of magic, and they watched as Rallick's chest lit up in a mysterious green color, and his whole body went stiff. He fell over on his side, twitching and spazzing, unable to control his own movements. Without a second thought, Margorite grabbed up the spear and brought it down once more into Rallick.
This time his body went limp, and she watched as the life began to fade from his eyes.
"Who are you?" Rallick coughed, clinging to his every last breath.
"Margorite, rightful heir to the throne of Astria," she replied coldly, kneeling down to his face. "Thanks for keeping it warm for me," she said, and jerked the spear in his chest.
She looked up, and Lit was already leaving the chambers to alert the people of Astria to charge on the castle.

It seemed the entire city had shown up in no time, and cleared all of Rallick's followers from the castle as quickly as they could. Margorite sat in the throne room, staring blankly at the floor as she prepared to resume power that night.
Lit came through the doors to the throne room, and approached her cautiously. She still had her spear and dagger at her side, tense and ready to face anyone who challenged her. Margorite saw him approaching, threw down her weapons and rushed into his arms. She buried her face in his fur and cried like she never had before; for the loss of her parents, for finally defeating Rallick, and for the hardships to come from ruling a kingdom.
He held her until she had no more tears, and wiped the dirt and blood from her face with his own fur.
"I'm scared Lit. I can't do this alone..."
"Who says you will be alone?" Lit asked, and produced a small blue ring from a pouch at his side.
Margorite stared at the ring in his hand, unsure of how to react. Was it an engagement ring? Or was it a Loyalty Ring of sorts? She looked questioningly at Lit, waiting for an explanation.
"I've always been there for you, and I will continue to, as long as you'll have me. I love you Margo. I have since I first saw you. I want you to be my wife. Together, we can reshape the kingdom, and I will never leave your side."
Her eyes welled over with tears, as Margorite extended a shaky hand for Lit to put the ring on.
"Yes, yes and yes," she cried, and kissed him hard on the mouth. "Yes."

Rebuilding Astria was difficult, but using the material from Rallick's enormous castle, they were able to rebuild most of the city, including the castle that Margorite's parents had called home.
Although Margorite had trained her entire life to one day overthrow the terrible former King, and was still considered one of the most powerful warriors the seas beheld, she still ruled with the kindest of hearts and deep-seeded morals, something she learned from Lit and Leida, but mostly from the memories others had of her parents. Every creature in the kingdom, and even those who lived beyond Astria's boundaries knew they could come to her if they were ever in need of help.

Lit and Margorite reigned over a once-again happy kingdom for many years, until their own child was old enough to rule in their place, and they retired to the outskirts of the kingdom to live out the rest of their days together in peace. Sometimes you can still catch them racing around the coral forests, though these days Margorite occasionally allows Lit to win...
