Almost hesatantly,I open my eyes and take a breath of relief and pain-im still alive. I glance around me,searching for my buddy and i see him, lieing still a few yards away. He looks pale, and his eyes are looking off into the clear night sky, or perhaps looking to a place far beyond now,a place that he now calls home. i shead a single tear for him, and think of my wife and babies at home,knowing they must be scared to death. I know they heard of the bombing of our camp, it's much to late for him i know, but not for me,not yet. I try to stand up, and the world spin anround me as i topple back to the ground...i sit for a few and gather myself. Then i see the blood on my uniform, a bullet in my side. The bleeding appears to be severe,but not fatal. i crawl across the desert,around rubble and debris,beside fallen men of my camp. This is war...i close my eyes once more in grief, then continue on. Some how, i must find a place to get help,and to contact my wife, she is the panic type, with good reason this time i suppose.I crawl for what seems like hours, untill i can almost crawl no more, when i hear faint noises in the distance-a neighboring camp that survived the bombing! I yell for help, hoping they can hear me. The sound of a motar comes closer and closer,untill i see it in the distance-they heard! oh thank god they heard me! The world start to get dark and distant, and the last thing i hear before i pass out is " Don't worry sodlier,we'll have ya bandaged up and home to your wife in no time."
