History
Chapter 1: The Tribe

I was born into a Native American tribe far away from here. I miss my family very much but I always knew that there was something odd about me. The first indication was my name. Anubis? That certainly was not a Native American name. I never thought to ask my mother about it though. I was happy living with my tribe and doing all that I could for them. At the time I had all the normal Native American markings and nothing physically set me apart from my tribe. However, something was off during the winter time. I grew to hate the cold and the snow under my paws.

Whenever a male gets of age in my tribe, there is a special ceremony when the male's father passes down something to the young male. It is a very special day for every male. When my time came, I realized that I didn't have a father to pass anything down to me. He had been missing since before I was born. My mother doesn't speak of him and when I used to ask her about him, there would be pain in her eyes. I hated putting any kind of pain on my mother. When my time came to come of age, I was presented in front of all the tribe and my mother was asked to finish the ceremony. To my surprise, she came up to me with a black mask that had blue, red, and gold markings on it. I had to say that I was not the only one who was surprised. "Anubis... I have something to tell you." My mother said sadly. "Your father was a warrior from a very hot land far away. This was his mask and I am giving it to you." The shock still showed on my face. How could this be? In front of the tribe, I accepted the mask and everyone feasted to my coming of age. It was a wonderful party full of dancing around the fire, singing, laughter, and food.

Even though I was thrilled to finally be an adult in the tribe and be privileged with all that came with. Something kept hitting me in the back of the head through out the whole party. I was dancing with my fellow tribe-mates when I spotted my mother sneaking off into the darkness. Excusing myself from my dance partner, I walked over to the place where my mother disappeared. I found her at the edge of the river crying. I hated seeing my mother in pain. Nudging her, I asked her a simple question. "Why are you crying?" She looked at me with her soft blue eyes. "Please forgive me. You have grown up so well and I am so proud of you. I was afraid the tribe wouldn't accept you if they knew." I saw all the fear for me in her eyes at that moment. "You have a right to know about your father's homeland and part of yourself." Lowering her head, she took off her sacred medicine bag from around her neck. Picking it up with her teeth, my mother slipped it around my neck. "I want you to find out everything you can. I kept that part hidden from you and you never truly knew yourself. Why you felt so different from the pack. Now you will be whole." A shocked look came over my face. "How can I leave the tribe? And you? I could never leave you. I don't even know where this place is." What was she saying?

"My brave son. Follow where the earth swallows the sun. You will find the land of sand. And there you will find your missing half." As my mother spoke, she looked across the river and smiled softly. Following her eyes, I looked myself but saw nothing. Was she remembering my father? I could only guess.

Chapter 2: Journey to the land of sand

A couple days after my ceremony, it was decided that I would leave the tribe on a spiritual journey to find the other half of me. I had always wondered why I had felt different and now I would find out why. I sat in my hut deciding what I would take with me. Worries clouded my head. What if I didn't find anything and it was all for nothing? It worried me what I would find or wouldn't find. A sigh escaped me as I walked out of the hut and went over to my waiting tribe. I had decided that all I would need would be the medicine bag that my mother had given me. A smile spread over her face when I walked over to her. Her paw laid against my cheek as tears formed in her eyes. "You will find what you are looking for my son. I know you will." I nuzzled my mother for the last time and took off, following where the sun sets. It was dusk so it was easy to follow the setting sun.

It took a long time. Longer then I had expected. There were many times when I had thought I had gotten lost but the setting sun was my beacon. My savior. One night while I was sleeping, I awoke to paws coming towards me. As quick as I could, I stood up in a defensive mode and threatened my attacker. It wasn't an attack though. I found myself staring at a beautiful white wolf with orange, red, and yellow flames on her body. I was struck dumb when I stared at her. "Why are you following me?" Her voice was that of angels and I wanted to continue hearing it forever but what she said surprised me. "Following you? I have never seen you in my life. I am following the setting sun." "That is what I am talking about." I soon found out that they beauty before me was a sun goddess and she had been very curious about me since I started my journey. Every night when I stopped to rest, she would come to earth and watch me as I slept, just so she could find out more about the strange wolf. "I am very sorry if I worried you. I didn't mean to. I am just on my way to the land of sand to answer a couple of questions." "The land of sand? You are in luck. It is not too far away. About half a month's journey from here." So all my traveling has not been in vain. I am getting close to it. Her and I spoke all night long until she had to go back up to the sky to awake the world.

Every night after that, when the sun set, she would return to earth and we would travel together as we talked. It started paining me every morning when she had to leave me. I found that I had fallen in love with the sun angel. It scared me though. Would such a beautiful creature love me back? I had to know. One night after I had awoken and she returned to earth, I took a deep breath and told her my secret. That I had fallen in love with her. She wasn't surprised or even upset. Her firey eyes showed the same amount of love that I held for her. I had never been so happy in my life. However, we had to keep our love for each other a secret or the other gods would take away my angel. I don't think I would have been able to handle that if she left me for longer then the day. We finally made it to the land of sand but I had lost my urge to find out the information had I had originally set out to find. I had found love and that was all I needed.

It wasn't long before we found ourselves parents of a beautiful girl and boy. With all the happiness I felt, I thought my heart would burst. Sadly, things would change. The other gos found out about me and our pups. Angry, the King of the desert gods took away my beautiful mate. I tried to get her back but before I knew it she was gone. There was nothing I could do but mourn my love with my pups. Looking at them, they reminded me so much of my lovely sun angel. Picking myself up, I walked with the pups, continuing to follow the setting sun. IT would tough on them and I knew it. I hated doing this to my own children but they wouldn't survive there. On the way, I came to a camp. I asked them if they could spare food and water for my children. A very motherly wolf came over and fell in love with my pups. I found out that she had lost her own with the desert heat. I knew I couldn't take care of them so with a heavy heart, I allowed the mother to take care of my pups until the could take care of themselves. Once I let them know that it was to save them and that I loved them, I took off on my pursuit. All I could think about was my love. I gave up my last piece of her. Maybe someone in the desert cities could tell me how to get my angel back. I had to know.
