Psychopomps

Psychopomps are supernatural creatures whose responsibility is to escort newly deceased souls to the afterlife. Their role is not to judge the deceased, but simply provide safe passage. In many religions, they are spirits, angels or deities and have been associated with animals such as horses, ravens, crows, dogs & owls just to name a few.
Psychopomps are also known as Grim Reapers.

His Story

Thantos wasn't born a Psychopomp. Thantos was born just like any other regular person and was raised like any other regular child. He grew up like any other adult and had a perfectly ordinary job. What wasn't normal about him was his full on belief in Heaven, Hell, Angels, Demons, and all that stuff. He believed what one did in life helped to decide where they went in death and did his all to make sure he went on to Heaven when it was his time. His time came sooner than he expected when a ruptured gas main suddenly exploded in an intersection, just as Thantos was crossing the street. The explosion killed not just him, but a few others too. A Reaper arrived to take them all to their rightful places, but this Reaper was a grumpy and irritable creature that had been around for many centuries and witnessed many wars. Thantos hoped not all Reapers were like this one, that there were some that cared for those they escorted to the Afterlife. And if not, he prayed one like that would appear soon.

When they all arrived at judgement, his prayer was answered in a way no one foresaw. Thantos was offered to become a Reaper himself, to be one who cared for the souls he escorted. Thantos accepted, knowing in his heart he wouldn't let the job down.
Since then Thantos has escorted souls for the past few decades, smiling and making friendly conversation as he provided them safe passage to the Afterall. Even the sinners, unless such souls refused his friendly words. Not once has he regretted his choice to become a Psychopomp.

But sometimes, as he wanders the land of the living, he does miss being one of them
living and breathing...
like any regular person.

Reverie
Reverie aids Thantos in taking souls where they need to go. More often than not, Reverie accompanies Thantos but there are times when one is seen without the other. Most of the time, Reverie seeks out newly deceased souls and waits for Thantos to arrive before he and Reverie escort the souls to the afterlife.
