He was a man of few words; it was odd, of course, because he was such a scholarly type. On more than one occasion, he had been caught reading the dictionary. "Goodness," others would say, "who reads the dictionary?"
But to Oliver, books and words, oh words, were the only way to escape from the cold world he was stuck in. He had been in this town for all of his life, and he had yet to even set foot out of town. His family would have scarcely let him leave when he was younger. And so, to see what else was lurking out in the wide world, he turned to the Library.
His town had only one claim to fame of any sort: the Library; it was extensive. There were books and papers on all sorts of things. One would hardly believe how much information was to be found in the Library.
And so Oliver set himself to studying. In time, a habit brought about by ennui turned into his life. Words that no one else knew filled his thoughts and statements.
