Radar is a Pembroke Welsh Corgi who was born May 23rd, 2010. When I first started to look for a puppy, I wasn't sure I doing the right thing. I still had my first dog, Lucky. She was a 15 year old Black Labrador, and she was one of my best friends for just as many years. It was plain to see that she was on her way to Rainbow Bridge, and I didn't want to be unfair to her. What if I got a new puppy and she felt like she was being replaced? What if I paid more attention to the puppy, than to her? My intent when I decided to look for a puppy was to try to get a spark back into her. She had become lethargic and slept most of the day away, and I hated to see her decline so rapidly. Also, getting a puppy before she died, would help me transition. I would be able to keep a clear head when looking at other dogs, see them for who they really were, instead of thinking, "That one looks just like my Lucky!" only to find out they weren't and become disappointed. That would not have been fair to the pup. So one day, I was looking at puppies online, purebred or mutt, it didn't matter, and came across this adorable little face:

As soon as I saw him, I felt as if he was looking straight into my soul. He wanted me to bring him home. So I contacted his breeder. Turns out he was raised on a property with several other animals (horses, pigs, cats, and other dogs) and he was very people oriented. You see, he and his siblings had to be bottle fed because their mother had died when they were 2 weeks old. Still, I felt he would fit right in. I lived on a property with horses, other dogs, goats, and my family and I love to cuddle our dogs. So, the following weekend my sister and I took a trip and went to see the little corgi puppy. When we got there, and the daughter brought out the puppy and set him on the ground, I knew I had to take him home. He ran right to my sister and I, jumped on us, rolled on his back, ran in circles...he wanted to play with complete strangers.

We brought him home on September 24, 2010. Once we introduced him to all the other animals, he settled in quite well. He got the name Radar due to his large ears, and when he slept, if we walked around him, his ears would follow us. Also, I just really enjoyed the tv show M*A*S*H, and the character Radar O'Reilly: Clicky xP See the resemblance? It's totally there!

Anyway, it was a few weeks after we brought Radar home that Lucky passed away. We did get to see a bit of the old Lucky come back when she met Radar, so I was happy. Radar also gave me something to come back home to. I wasn't coming back from school with as much of an empty feeling. Radar knew exactly how to cheer me up, and helped me with the loss of Lucky. Back then, I didn't know exactly how much of a blessing Radar really was in my life. Not until I moved out to a different state with my husband.

A few months after moving, I got a call that forever changed my world. My Dad had passed away in the middle of the night. My husband and I were devastated. I cried and cried, and who was there to lick the tears from my face? Radar. My husband's pup Izzy was there and did her best to cheer me up too, but she and I don't have near the connection/relationship that I have with Radar. Nevertheless, she did help me. After the first day of losing my Dad, Radar and Izzy were a team while my husband was at work. If I started to feel depressed they would run around with their toys, throwing them in my lap, squeaking them, or just jump up in my lap themselves. Then about 2 months later, I lost my Quarter Horse, Dakota. Dakota was another of my best friends for 10 years. I got him when I was 11 years old or so. Again, Radar was there for me, licking the tears off my face, and he and Izzy would then start up their little antics again to try and cheer me up. Radar LOVES his squeaky toys, and whenever I hear him play with them and frantic squeaking fills the house, it always brings a smile to my face.

I honestly, cannot imagine my life without him right now. It is physically impossible. I know Radar was sent to me from Heaven...my little guardian angel :)
