Liuyang (simplified Chinese: 浏阳; traditional Chinese: 瀏陽; pinyin: LiÃºyÃ¡ng) is a county-level city in Changsha, the capital of Hunan province in China. Liuyang is well known for its fireworks industry. It has an area of 5,008 square kilometres and a population of 1,380,000 as of 2003.Liuyang shares an important place in the history of the origination of fireworks. These flowers as the Chinese name implies (literally Fire Flower) are not just appreciated by Chinese but have also been appreciated by people from numerous countries and cultures.The Liuyang River is the main source for irrigation in Liuyang. There is also a very famous song named Liuyanghe , composed in 1950 by Tang Biguang and Xu Shuhua, the theme of which relates to the river and the nearby village of Shaoshan, where Chairman Mao was born, and is a karaoke favorite in the town.Chrysanthemum stones are another famous item. They are available in many sizes and can range in price from less than a dollar, to hundreds of thousands of dollars.
