Lightning flashed, silhouetting the small laboratory on the hill, casting it in ultimate shadow. A slight green glow emanated from the low windows, contrasting against the night sky, shimmering off the rain. Inside, laboratory test animals resided in barred cages, some snarling incessantly, others crouched in the corner, night eyes flashing. In the middle of the room, an experimental scientist leaned over a table with a black raccoon strapped down. Its eyes gleamed with fear while the scientist, goggles adorning his face that flashed coldly with the lightning like his black eyes, approached, carrying an ominous hypodermic needle filled with sickly green contents. Holding out the creature's muzzled head to expose the neck, he injected the serum and stepped back expectantly, waiting for it to take effect. The raccoon cried out in pain and struggled futilely, then suddenly stilled. His pupils enlarged then shrunk to nonexistence, and his irises transformed to a glowing sea blue. Silver fur erupted along his spine, and his markings radiated bright green. In one motion, he stood and tore the bindings apart, ripped the muzzle off, and crouched with new, blazing eyes turned corrupt. The man watched with a mix of excitement and horror, for he had experienced this result before, but had been able to subdue the smaller animal. In the blink of an eye, the experiment-gone-bad lunged, making the man crash into a table of test tubes with a crash. The last the scientist saw was the flash of white teeth and eyes full of blood-lust.

Dripping with blood, the terracoon heard the cries for help from the caged animals. He crept up to the confinement of a dog with two tails and an extra leg. It whined with a raspy voice and gazed at him with milky eyes, Let me out, I can help you, escape with you. The terracoon grinned evilly and smoothly unlatched the lock. The dog gratefully took a step out, but laid dead on the ground 10 seconds later, not even completely out of his former prison. The murderer moved to the next cage, and the next, till all were brutally slaughtered. He left only one, his equal, to live, the other like him. He stepped out of the laboratory building on the hill, lightning illuminated his figure as he continued on to the next doomed destination in a quest for power and death....
