Morta Nox is what she considers, the best of a trio. See, she's one of three sisters, and although they often get grouped together... she's a person all her own. She's the third sister of the Parcae, or as the English call them, the Fates. Her and her sisters are the keepers of all life. First there is her oldest sister, Nona, the motherly one... and the crafty one. She spins the thread of life for each new human. Then the middle child, Decima, the smart one. Morta often thought of her as the librarian, she constantly kept measurements of all the threads, and kept tabs. Morta was always happy to see Decima. Although they didn't have much in common, she always came bearing gifts. The gifts of death. Mortas job was to cut each thread when their time was up.
This may not seem like a very exciting job, but it came with perks. Morta was allowed to choose the manner in which in person passed on. Morta was born for this job, she was very creative, some might say, even more so than her elder sister Nona. She had a knack for choosing a person's death. She sometimes discussed at great length the lives they lead with her sister Decima, as well as asked her for a warning of lives that were about to end. It was always humorous to her that some humans thought they received warnings about death. Some came in the form of witches and seers, some came in dreams by the person themselves. All were, of course, Morta's doing. She did it not to give them warning, however. She did it more to the fact to play with her victims. There was nothing more satisfying to her than seeing a human in his last week of life, trying to figure out how to stop it from happening. Such paranoid being, and hopeless at that. Morta new as well as any other God or Goddess that fighting death was impossible and a giant waste of time. Morta loved her job too much to let anyone slip through her fingers.
Sometimes, as any other being, Goddess or otherwise, has to admit... she gets carried away. You see, Morta not only likes her job, she loves for it... she lives for it. Sometimes she gets overtaken by the blood lust and has to be stopped. Humans know these times as black years... plagues; times when massive amounts of deaths occur. Morta is always finally stopped, albeit a bit difficult, by her sisters, who knows it' important to stick to the codes and their jobs. No one could ever think to replace Morta however, it takes a certain type of individual, even with the Gods, to deliver the way she does. She's completely irreplaceable.
