The leaves rustled almost silently as the shadowed figure came toward me. The forest was unusually dark because of the overcast blocking out the light from the moon and stars. I knew who the figure was. I had been in this situation dozens of times before, and it ended the same way every time. Me trying to run. Me slipping and falling on some unforeseen patch of mud that wasn't naturally made because it hadn't rained in years. Me getting tagged. My turn to be it. Me going on the hunt for Herrow. This time was different, though. This time the shadowed figure was holding something she had never held before. This time she inched closer and closer to me with her hand outstretched.

Jeannette! Quit trying to scare me. Just tag me already and get it over with!

My words didn't faze her, and she continued toward me with her arms outstretched. I waited silently for something to happen. I didn't want to run, because if I did I would be disqualified from the game. Her arms shook and her legs shook as she inched her way toward me. I wished it would have been lighter outside. That way I would have been able to see her eyes. Instead, I was left wondering if her eyes were as empty as her emotions.

Jeannette, what are you doing! You are going to lose the game if you keep lollygagging. You haven't ever lost the game!

She had always found me faster then the others found their opponents. Maybe this time she wanted one of the others to be able to win. Where were the others? They should have been here by now if they were found already. Herrow would still be hiding, since he is the last in the chain. But Lyndsey started the game out, and then Scotti had to find Jeannette, so they should be following behind her. Which they aren't.

Where are the others Jen? It isn't much of a Zombie Attack if Lyndsey and Scotti aren't here with you.

Her footsteps got heavier as she inched closer to me. It had to have been ten minutes that she was standing there barely moving, her record of finding me was two and a half. She must really have been losing at that rate. I started to hear groans coming from her mouth, and her legs became more stiff as she walked. She must have been acting like a true Zombie. She had never gone to the trouble before to really act the scene out. It was always BAM! and then she had found me. I had wondered then if she was training for an acting career, but I sided against it since the five of us had wanted to be Astronomers since the time we could converse together.

You know you don't really have to have an acting background to be an Astronomer, right? You can speed up a little bit, you know.

She did speed up. She started running at full speed toward me, with the object grasped firmly in her hand. I buried my face in my arms and turned away from her. She lunged at me, her arms outstretched. I could then see the object. A dagger. I didn't know what she planned on using it for. If it was a scare tactic, it worked. Just as the blade of the dagger was about to make contact with my skin, something happened. The dagger dropped from her hands and Jeannette fell on top of me in a lifeless lump. I could feel her warm blood seeping into my clothes. I was afraid to move her. I was afraid to move myself.

Jeannette! Are you okay? Jeannette! Wake up!

I slapped her face, hoping she would wake up. I rolled her off of me and started searching to find the location of the wound. I found a large whole in her back, right next to her spine. A whole the size of a dagger blade. I screamed for help. None came. I was alone in miles of woods with no one with me but a bleeding, lifeless body. I had to do something.

Jeannette...

I kissed her cheek. I stared into her blank eyes. If it were light outside I would have been able to see the beautiful blue her eyes seemed to radiate. Instead, I stared into black and gray orbs. I cried a little, and my heart jumped.

I love you...

I ran down the path to find help. I didn't remember where I came into the forest at, so I just wandered around hopelessly. Until I felt the sharp tip of a dagger grace my skin. The last thing I remember seeing was long, flowing hair and girl with a smirk on her face. Lyndsey. I blacked out and dropped to the ground.
