Chelons are prideful and vain creatures, spending most of their time polishing and adoring the jewels on their backs. Ever since their species was discovered, on the shores of Delphi beach, they've always been birthed with these stones emb.edded into their granite like shells. Every so often, a poacher gets the ridiculous idea that they could somehow pry off the jewel to sell, but it's been proved impossible and just leaves them with a large and painful bite mark.

The more beautiful and shiny the jewels, the more respected the Chelon is. They are treated as royalty, while those whose jewels don't shine as bright, must strive to prove themselves in other ways. However, no matter how dim or bleak a Chelons' jewels may be they are nothing compared to "You see, Parry had been born different from all the other little Chelons, in the place where the jewels should have been, there was nothing but empty spaces as if they had fallen off when he had crawled out of his shell. (They had looked inside of it, but there was nothing!). There was no explanation for his difference, and there had never been anything like this in the history of Subeta.

Chelons are raised together by a community, and while Parry never went hungry or sick he was never truly accepted. The other Chelon's felt he was too different, too odd to be included into their little community and thus excluded him. As infants, the other Chelons were discouraged by the elders to stay away from Parry, fearing that somehow their jewels would fall off as well. As he grew older and was able to fend for himself, the exclusion turned to blatant ignoring. Even those Chelons with the dimmest of jewels avoided him, feeling they also would be excluded and ignored. No one dared to have any contact with Parry.

He decided to spend most of his free time alone, exploring the ocean shores and collecting items that caught his interest. Instead of choosing the shiniest, he chose the ones that were beautiful in his eyes, the objects that were like him; forgotten. Things that had floated ashore, things humans had left behind or just things that looked like they needed a little care and love.

Now normally, such rejection would cause most creatures to develop a sense of bitterness and resentment towards the group, or at the very least succumb to a state of depression but not Parry. He viewed his flaw as something beautiful and unique. He liked that it made him different. So while the other Chelons spent their time grooming, primping, forming little cliques based on their beauty and status, Parry would rather spend his days alone, swimming happily on the shore of Delphi beach never once caring about what the other Chelons thought of him.

Unknown to Parry, the smaller creatures of the sea often took pity on Parry. While most Chelons could care less about anyone one smaller and weaker than themselves, Parry never looked down on anyone.
Whenever a fish, a crab or some other crustacean would happen upon something Parry would consider a treasure, they would make sure that the Chelon would stumble upon it on his travels. They also have a particular nasty habit of biting and snapping at the other Chelons who were callous to Parry.
