Nachteffekt...

The unicorn is a majestic creature, known for it's mystical powers and it's powerful alicorn. That is what the horn is called. Many people wished to have the healing power and luck that the unicorn's horn brought, so they went out to hack it off and take it home for themselves. But, do you know what happens when a unicorn loses its horn?

My hooves pounded the ground, kicking up loose dirt and rocks as I ran for my life. The hunter behind me rode on a horse that was just barely keeping up with me. Barely, but just enough. I could feel the man's greed just as much as I could feel the horse's breath as they road alongside me."Faster, we're almost upon her!" The man yelled, stirring on his steed. I groaned inwardly as I continued running. Humans! Why can't they see that not all of my species are female?! Just as I finished the thought, I felt the human's body collide with mine causing me to stumble and hit the ground with considerable force.

With the wind knocked out of me, I couldn't move. My point of vulnerability. I heard the sound of metal against metal, and then the human's sword connected swiftly with my beautiful alicorn. The world grew blurry and dim, while the smells and sounds grew indistinct and pale. My powers were gone, and now I would surely die. The bone would never grow back. What would grow was infection. I would become weak and unable to move, slowly starving. No one would help me. The smell of a dying unicorn was terrible, especially for the animals. I would be left alone to meet my end.

I heard the crunch of leaves coming my way. But how could that be? The hunter had left me to die at least an hour ago... A gentle hand petted my pelt while another held my head off the ground. Even with my impaired senses, I could see the woman meant me no harm. A cold drop of liquid fell on my muzzle. She even wept for me. At least someone would lament my passing.

The next few hours became like minutes. The human woman left, then came back. Something swabbed at my missing horn, burning a little. Something else was soft was pushed under me, making me a little more comfortable. Then came the weeks.

I cannot remember how long it was, exactly, but she took care of me. She fed me and cared for my needs. When it rained, she made sure I stayed dry. When more hunters came, she fended them off. And surely she must have known I was lonely, because she kept me company and spoke to me. I didn't understand what she said, or why she did this. I could no longer grant wishes or heal. And yet she continued.

Slowly, my senses came back. I took in her scent, her voice, her looks. She was young, and yet she had streaks of elderly hair. Her eyes, green like new grass. And her face-emotions, very amusing. But I never could understand her language.

When I regained my strength, I stayed with her. To this day I am hers. She never learned my name, nor I hers... Of that I greatly regret.
