Soma was a normal high school student who wanted to visit his childhood friend Mina at the White Horse Shrine to see a Lunar Eclipse. However, during the eclipse, he and Mina were transported into Castlevania. It was in there that Soma learned of his Power of Dominance over souls and that he was one of the reincarnations of Dracula, the Lord of Darkness. And while others who also were born on that same day reveled to become the Lord of Darkness, Soma did not. He wanted to give up the power but learned from Genya Arikado (who is really Alucard) that should someone else become Dracula, evil would befall the land and that only he had the abilities to seal up the hole inside of the castle which Dracula's powers were seeping from. Soma decided to do something about this and went to the throne room where he sealed up the dark powers, but was he free from the darkness that haunts his innocent soul?

Just a year after the events that happened during the Luna Eclipse, Soma was attacked by followers of the priestess Celia Fortner, who was the leader of a cult dedicated to the revival of Dracula. Because Soma held the Dark Lord's power and was basically Dracula incarnate but wasn't wanting to become him, Celia decided that he should be eliminated, but Soma was saved once again by Genya. As it turned out, Soma wasn't the only Dark Lord candidate, as he would soon discover, but he knew that in order to stop Celia and finally put what had happened behind him, he would have to stop Celia's plan. However, things would seem to not to go to plan for Soma.

As it turned out, Soma had been struggling to control the dark powers within him. He'd experienced this during the events of the eclipse when he headed into the room that held the Chaos, and Celia was planning to use this against him. In a twist of fate, Celia supposedly had Mina, Soma's childhood friend, murdered in front of him to draw out his darker form, but it was revealed, thanks to Soma having Mina's charm she gave to him, which helped him to stave off the darkness for a while longer, Genya was able to arrive in time to reveal to Soma that the "Mina" killed was just a doppelganger in disguise, and Soma was eventually able to stop the plans of the cult and lead a much more peaceful life with his friends... or so he thought...

Sometime after the incident concerning Celia and the other Dark Lord candidates, Soma was pulled into a Time Rip and met up with Aeon Chronos who needed his help to take on the Time Reaper that was threatening to destroy the very fabric of time by destroying Dracula so that he could gain his powers and rule the chaos. Soma, knowing if the Time Reaper did that, would cause him to lose his powers, agreed, and he went searching for Alucard to see if he knew anything about the whereabouts of the Time Reaper. Through Alucard, Soma was able to meet Trevor Belmont, an ancestor of Julius, and explained to Trevor how Julius had helped him to overcome the dark power in him to learn to control the Power of Dominance but that Soma needed help with seeking out the Time Reaper and asked for Trevor's help. With their help, Soma hoped to find and defeat the Time Reaper before things got really crazy.
