Background

Xelcsal's past is one full of obstacles and dark times. He was born in the deserts of the Sacred Lands, to a pair of traveling gypsies taking shelter in a Saheric Cave from a sandstorm. The couple had become separated from the main party and took shelter there when the sandstorm rolled in. Fearing they would become lost and succumb to the desert if they attempted to find their way out of it, Xelcsal's parents decided to make the cave their home. His father traveled short distances from the cave, searching for food and water in the harsh environment. It was a difficult living and they barely coped, but cope they did.
For about ten years, Xelcsal learned to adapt to the meager meals and shortage of water, never once complaining. But the desert is cruel, and in one night Xelcsal's life was turned upside-down.

One night, strangers found their cave, strangers with cruel voices and even crueler weapons. Xelcsal's parents were killed without warning or mercy, and Xelcsal was tied up to be taken to a city to be sold as a slave, dragged through the sand when he refused to follow on his own. On the second night though, Xelcsal got his chance to escape. Able to loosen his bindings just enough to slip out of them, Xelcsal silently took one of his captor's weapons and fled into the desert without knowing where he was going.

Since then over the years, Xelcsal has learned to survive on his own, despite the difficulties and obstacles he has faced from dangerous creatures to other hostile strangers, to harsh sandstorms and days of no water. He has also collected whatever artifacts he has found, storing them in a safe location that only he knows (and sometimes forgets where it is. Even he sometimes gets lost), and picked up a couple of friends in the form of desert minions. Sometimes he has ventured away from the desert, exploring other regions of Subeta whenever his interest is peaked.
But never does he stray from his homeland for too long.

Companions


Mojave
The first minion Xelcsal befriended out in the desert. The desert hopper had followed the scent of food to where Xelcsal was taking shelter and after a few hours of feeding the little minion, it refused to leave Xelcsal's side. Since then, Mojave has been Xelcsal's most faithful companion, using his eyes and ears to help keep them safe.

Cryst
Cryst is a more recent minion to be befriended. Xelcsal had been exploring a Saheric cave to see what he could find in terms of artifacts. Instead, he found the little lizard. He hadn't seen a minion like this one in the desert so far and he didn't want to let it go to never see it again, so he befriended it and leaves it with his stashed collection of artifacts as a sort of 'guard dog'.

Topi
Xelcsal's most recently acquired companion. How he found the little Cera is something of a mystery, but ever since befriending her she has become a vital companion due to the Cera's ability to learn and speak other languages. Her ability becomes especially useful when Xelcsal leaves the desert to visit other regions where the people speak another languages that Xelcsal doesn't understand.
