- the slayer of dragons -

the prince was a lonely boy. his father - the king - was always conducting business with the townsfolk. and greedy he was, specifically with his time. the boy barely knew his father and his mother was so depressed that she hardly showed her face outside of public affairs. although the castle was filled with people, he didn't find it too difficult to feel completely alone.

the prince knew to never venture outside of the town's gates; not that anyone would notice. feeling exceptionally ignored one day, the boy sneaked out of his room while his father was conducting his daily bout of business proposals and found his way to the forest of dragons. all he wanted was one of the scaly pastel eggs that sat unaccompanied, the sun warming the baby dragon growing inside. "i'll call you mertru."

as the prince grew older with his reptilian friend, the two became inseparable. the basilisk, unaware of his hereditary roots, was immersed in stories of knights slaying mythical beasts and fire-breathing dragons and living happily ever after with the rescued damsels. mertru fell in love with falling in love and vehemently vowed to slay his own dragon and find his one true love. but i'm not gonna be the one who tells him...
