Life Excerpt

As he stepped out of the changing room he took a deep breath, breathing in the air of his work space. This was something that he would never tire of, the beautiful scent of all of these flowers in one place. Ever since Hara started working at this botanical garden he had loved every single day of it. He could spend all day doing what he loved most, tending to all of the different plants that were growing here. There wasn’t a chore that he didn’t enjoy. Even cleaning up was a breeze when surrounded by this amalgamation of lovely scents.

A couple of hours later it was time for lunch. Hara fetched his lunchbox from his bag and went to his favorite spot in the whole place. It was overlooking a pond with a small artificial waterfall, and all of it surrounded by beautiful plants and flowers. As he rounded a bend in the path he stopped suddenly as he noticed that someone was already occupying the bench that he usually sat on. A smile spread across his face. This was a familiar face. A regular, if you would. It was just more common for him to come around a little later in the day.
As Hara approached the bench he could see that the guest in question was deeply engaged in sketching on a sketch pad. In fact, he was so into it that he didn’t even notice Hara approaching and stopping right next to him. There wasn’t a single reaction until Hara sat down next to him on the bench. Those bright, beautiful, minty eyes met his own blue ones and his cute deer ears perked up in excitement as a bright smile spread across his face.
-”Hara! Hi! I didn’t even notice you coming over.” He scratched the back of his head sheepishly. “You know how I get when I get started on an idea, yeah?” Hara chuckled a little and smiled at his friend.
-”Yes Kaya, I know. I like that about you. And besides, I’m that way myself.” Kaya cocked his head slightly.
-”I didn’t know you did art.” Hara chuckled again and shook his head.
-”Oh no, I don’t. I just meant that once I get really into tending to my plants you’d have a hard time breaking that focus.” Kaya nodded.
-”Yeah, yeah. That’s exactly what I mean.”
What ensued was them talking for the rest of Hara’s lunch break. Even sharing his lunch between them. When he was heading back to the green house where his current work project was taking place he found himself thinking about his friend. Not the conversation they’d had, but Kaya himself. His beautiful eyes, his cute deer ears. That short and cute deer tail of his and that slender body that ended with those adorable little hooves. Hara could feel himself getting flustered and shook his head. He needed to focus on the job at hand.
