My story started a long time ago. It's been so long that I don't even remember everything. However, I can tell you what I do remember. I hope you listen well so you don't have to experience my journey.
In the beginning my name was Yadon Kies; I was born on a planet called Earth in the year 2989.
I was born well after World War III, which took place in 2339.
You see, the United Nations took over the whole world.
The United Nations (UN) had been created to keep world peace for every nation after the Second World War. However, after conflict between the United State (US) and China, the two greatest nations at that time, grew. The United States gained the support of the United Nations, while China gained the support of countries that opposed the United States. Causing some countries to disband the United Nations.
The war lasted 117 years.
Over the course of time, the United States and its allies returned to an old idea from World War II; Code-named "Project Seal". Tests showed that the weapon was feasible and after years of constant revision the United Nations finally declared "Project Seal" to be a success. It became a safer alternative to Nuclear War.
Although many lives were lost on both sides, the United Nations won the war.
However, not long after the United Nations took control from the United State. This allowed the United Nations to control a vast amount of the world; all in hopes to avoid future wars.
Although not everyone agreed with the United Nations; all who opposed were hunted and killed. The United Nations declared it as an act for the greater good. Still many did not agree with this and tried to stand up against the United Nations; Guerrilla organizations. They always differed in size some small, with only a handful of people while some had thousands. No matter how many Guerrilla groups rose they always seemed to fail in their attempts. However, some groups still rise from time to time.
I worked in a military base.
My job was nothing special, really, just sitting in a chair, checking IDs.
I quickly grew bored with my mundane job. I was trained for greatness! I was a solider not a desk jockey. Well that's not the whole true. I was not trained like normal soldiers.
I don't remember the process, but I was told later they implanted memories into my mind; advanced training memories. Some military, some not.
The memories weren't mine; they were never mine. The memories came from hundreds if not thousands of people. People all trained in different skills over the course of their lives.
Sometimes, I experienced the side effects. Every now and then I experienced deep longing for someone long since passed. Sometimes I had memories of someone else's childhood. Some days I didn't know who I was. I would lose myself to the memories. Even if I were meant to only remember the training, I still get small memories - from those nameless people.
I feel like I have lived so many different lives but none of them were mine.
Not only did they give me those memories, but they injected me with some modified animal DNA. A side effect or added bonus, I don't know which, was that it increased my muscle mass. I felt like I had been going to the gym every day for years.
I wasn't the only one with these traits, these memories and injections were a protocol to follow for all new recruits. It was part of our "training".
One day, they gathered the top one hundred men in the base for a secret project.
I wasn't one of these soldiers, I didn't even rank close. It's not so bad since everyone was trained the same way as the other soldiers.
My roommate and friend, I forgot his name, was actually on the top 20.
I remember what he said, "I never took the advanced training."
I knew he was lying. How can someone be in the top twenty without it? I knew that multiple people in the top one hundred volunteered for the procedure multiple times, which would cause them to be mentally unstable or suffer unforeseen physical changes.
That night he never showed for the gathering. I would later find out he escaped from the base. At the time I thought that I was never going to see him again, but I was wrong.
The next day, I heard the news that everyone in the gathering disappeared and the three people who didn't show were suspected of the causing those disappearances.
I knew this was false since I saw my friend leave the base but I didn't report it. I couldn't.
A couple of hours later, a small unit with my commanding officer came to my room and took me by force. I remember looking up and then feeling a sharp pain in the back of my head.
I later awoke on the floor of a dark room, bare and wet. Eventually my commanding officer came into the room and informed me that I was my friend. They thought I was him. I had no idea why and I tried to explain but they didn't listen.
Then they told me about this new weapon that was kind of like a time machine. They could send people into the past, maybe the distant future. However, the machine was proven to effectively send people into the past or future, for about 1.3 percent of the user.
It was rumor that one person went as far as the roman times.
I learned their goal was to obtain a better version of the machine by sending someone to the future. Were they would find it and bring back a better version of the machine. This could save time, money, and possibly lives.
I wasn't buying his speech. I wasn't willing to risk my life for time or money but they didn't care if I was willing or not.
I was chained and I put in front the time machine's energy portal.
This is when I saw him again.
My friend was accompanied with a rebellion group and some soldiers. They had defected and joined a Guerrilla group.
At the time I had shut my eyes, believing they were trying to save me.
I opened my eyes when I felt the chains from around me fall. My friend looked at me with sad eyes and then around the room. My gaze followed his and I noticed his group, they had killed everyone in the room.
I will never forget this moment. He turned back to me and said, "For the good of humanity, try to change the past. So, this didn't happen and we no longer exist."
While I try to process what he was had said, he pushed me into the portal.
I still didn't understand why he pushed me.
While I was in some kind of energy tube, my body changed.
Then I appeared in another place, however, it wasn't Earth.
