As dusk crept closer the environment around him was getting darker. And he was getting more and more worried as time went by. Echo should have been back by now. It wasn’t like him to stay away this long. All he was supposed to be doing was checking the surrounding forest for enemies and to find something for the two of them to eat. Stardust knew that hunting could sometimes take longer than anticipated but being this late was unheard of when it came to Echo. His hunky partner knew how easily Stardust worried about him and therefore always tried his utmost to get back as quickly as possible.

After staying put for another hour Stardust decided that he couldn’t wait any longer. He was certain that something must be wrong. The small hairs at the back of his neck had been standing up ever since Echo was about to leave this morning. And he’d had a bad feeling about it all. Which he’d told Echo, who’d smiled at him and told him that everything was going to be okay. He swallowed hard when he recalled the second part of what Echo had said. That he loved Stardust for worrying about him. The knot in Stardust’s stomach grew bigger. He hoped beyond hope that this morning hadn’t been the last time he’d seen the man he loved.
It took every ounce of Stardust’s self control not to let any tears fall as his mind wandered among memories of the two of them together. There was plenty to go through as they had been together for about three years now.

After walking around for around two hours, trying his best to track Echo’s movement, he entered a glen. At first it looked like any of the previous glens that he’d come across in his search, but then he noticed something that made him grow cold with dread. Instead of the ordinary tracks he’d been following he could now see more than just one set of footprints. And it was obvious that there had been a struggle. And then there was the blood. It wasn’t enough for him to fear the worst, but it was still alarming. He couldn’t be absolutely certain if the blood was Echo’s but something about all of those footprints converging on the same spot as Echo’s footprints told him that it probably was. Stardust crouched, reached out and touched one of the footprints that had been made by someone with animal feet. He was certain that they had been left by Echo since he’d tracked them here. And the other footprints were all from people wearing shoes. Probably humans. Dread filled his entire being. Judging by the footprints and what he’d heard about the humans that prowled around here it didn’t bode well for Echo. But it also meant that Stardust knew where to head next. He didn’t need any footprints to follow for this bit. As much as he dreaded it he had to head for the arena located several miles away. Stardust just wished that he’d get there in time. And that he’d be able to free his love before Echo was defeated. Because defeat in that arena always meant death.
Stardust let out a sigh. He knew that he’d need help if he were to free his friend. Where he’d find said help he didn’t know, but he was definitely going to keep his eyes open for any kind souls along the way.
