In the early ages of the Earth, gods and goddesses warred among one another. Even before mortal man existed, these immortal beings battled to gain sway over desirable land on which to settle. As they continued to skirmish, one god finally won out over the others and became ruler; Zeus. Although many were happy to have a leader, other lesser immortals were not.

One such being was Fiura. She had fought impressively against the other immortals, however when Zeus began to rule, she was forced into submission. Soon after, mortal man was created in order to do the work of the gods and goddesses. All the while, immortals sat upon the acclaimed Mount Olympus looking down at their subjects. Most mortals prayed to the well-known gods such as Zeus, Hera and Aphrodite, always begging for love, life and happiness. Such things sickened Fiura, yet she stayed silent.

In her silence, Fiura plotted. One day, she vowed she would sit atop the throne of Mount Olympus and make the other deities bend to her will. The prayer of mortal man gave power to the gods, but the prayers of an immortal being… there was bound to be endless power ready for the reaping.

If she was to overthrow the almighty Zeus, Fiura would have to have help. And help she would find from Zeus’ own flesh and blood; Hades. Slinking into the Underworld, she would find Hades upon his own throne of death and beg for help. Hades held a hate for his brother like none other and was sure to help her.

”The stench of Mount Olympus clings to you… what task is it that brings the warmth of the surface to the dank Underworld?” Hades voice sliced through the darkness as Fiura approached.

”I wish to overthrow your brother… help me and you shall bathe in the light of Mount Olympus at my side.” Fiura answered, her own voice thin and barely audible.

Hades seemed to ponder this idea, although his fiery grin replied before his words did.

“Bring me the hair of the sun and a tear of the moon, and I will give you the power you need to take the throne from beneath my dear brother.”

The words did not puzzle Fiura, for she knew Hades required a hair from atop Apollo’s head and a tear from Artemis, Apollo’s twin sister. Though she couldn’t imagine what Hades would do with these items, Fiura did not question the hate that Hades felt towards his brother. And so, she set out on her mission.

To get a hair from Apollo, Fiura disguised herself as one of the many women that fawned over the beauty of the sun god. Indeed, he was handsome but Fiura found herself shrinking away from his light, preferring the cover of shadows. However, today she would have to bathe fully in his light to gain the first of two items that Hades required. Garbed in an intricate gown, Fiura entered the chamber of Apollo, blinking back the light as it shown so bright.

”Ah, you must be the new goddess that all the girls are aflutter about.” Apollo’s deep voice boomed, sending Fiura’s heart racing. ”Your appearance has them all quite jealous, even more so that you’ve gained council with me.”

Apollo’s arrogance was thick enough to choke on, however Fiura did not bite back with the usual sour remark. Instead, she offered a shy smile, stepping closer to the sun god. ”I only wish to serve the one who brings sunshine to all of Mount Olympus.”

The comment pleased Apollo, and he invited Fiura closer. The time spent with Apollo was more difficult than walking into the gates of the Underworld, yet she was successful. After swooning the sun god, she was able to convince him to let her take his hairbrush as token of their time spent together. Oblivious to the power a single hair could hold, Apollo agreed.

To get a tear from Artemis proved more difficult, however. Men are notorious for having a one-track mind, yet Artemis was suspicious of Fiura from the beginning. Fiura continuously begging Artemis to take her on a hunt, yet the goddess refused. It was only after so many refusals that Fiura decided a different plan was to be made.

One night, Fiura set her new plan in motion. Running to Artemis, Fiura burst into her chambers, screaming.

“Come quick! Your brother… he has been taken by Hades!”

Such a thing was not to be questioned, so Artemis followed Fiura into the Underworld. The two ran as quickly as they could in order to save Apollo. Unknown to Artemis, a trap lay in wait and once she entered the Underworld, she was captured by Hades’ minions. It was clear to Artemis then that Apollo had not been taken. It had all been a ruse.

Grinning wide, Fiura approached the moon goddess as she struggled against the Underworld minions. Clearly, Artemis was stunned by the trap and infuriated.

”Do not struggle, dear Artemis. I only need a small gift from you. And once I receive it, you and all of Mount Olympus shall fall. I will bathe in the blood of your brothers and sisters, and I will rule supreme.”

”I will give you nothing!” Artemis shrieked. The thought of everyone she knew and loved dying or becoming powerless to the likes of Fiura brought a single tear to her eye. ”You are a monster!

Retrieving a small vial, Fiura captured the single tear that rolled down Artemis’ cheek, grinning wider. ”You’ve already given me what I need. Minions, take her to the surface. Her suffering has only just begun.”

With that, the minions swept the moon goddess away and Fiura returned to Hades’. Kneeling in front of the Underworld’s ruler, she offered up the two items he had demanded.

”So you’ve succeeded… I suppose I shall uphold my end of the bargain and give you what you asked for.”

Taking the tear from Artemis and the hair from Apollo, Hades conjured the fires of the Underworld to meld the items together. The tear of the moon goddess stretched and flexed, growing larger and larger until it took the shape of a great lion. The hair of the sun god snaked around the lion’s head, setting aflame.

When Hades was finish molding the creature, Fiura quickly approached it, running a hand along the great being’s pelt. Yet the creature did not stir. Perplexed, she looked at Hades only to find that fiery grin upon his lips once more.

”I seem to have forgotten one thing… You see, the creature will not live. That is, until the soul of a traitorous immortal is ripped from its host and planted within it.”

Fiura’s eyes grew wide with knowing, turning on her heels to flee. Yet she was unable to escape. Hades’ minions captured her, bringing her back within the grasp of Hades. Without another word, Hades plunged his hand into Fiura’s chest, latching onto her very living essence, and tearing it from her body. Fiura’s body went limp once her soul was removed and the minions let her body fall to the ground, forgotten like a piece of rubble.

Fiura’s soul shrieked and squirmed against the cold grasp of Hade’s fingers, yet he was unmoved. Sinking his fist into the newly formed creature, it suddenly sprang to life once Fiura’s soul melded with it.

”Your name shall be Descension, as the gods and goddesses of Mount Olympus shall descend into the fiery depths of the Underworld! Go forth and wreak havoc in my name!”
