Chapter 1

Dragon looked out the window of his penthouse apartment down on the busy town of Seattle. He’d lived for some time now in this apartment, which Ron had gotten him. Ron was the head of the Security Team at Saedar Krupp Industries and his boss. The flat was pure luxury. The furniture was made of real wood. There was even a real leather couch—something Dragon had never thought he’d own. Real wood was rare these days and extremely expensive, but that job 2 years ago earned had him lot of money.
After Ron was so kind to get him the apartment, Dragon had decided not to stay in that wreck of a hut on the Barrens. This penthouse apartment was a fully furnished 2 floors with a balcony and a swimming pool. And by accepting the apartment, Dragon could afford real food. He didn’t have to stand that soy food any longer. The stuff you had to eat when you were broke.

Dragon turned his attention back to the photograph in his hand. In the photograph, a young man and woman were shown. Both were dressed in military gear. The man had short brown hair, an impish smile on his lips, and was making rabbit ears behind the head of the woman. The woman had black, shoulder length hair, emerald green eyes, and warm tanned skin. Her mother had probably been Asian or half Asian.
Dragon was pretty sure the guy who’d given him the photo was the woman’s father The young guy in the photo had accompanied the man when they’d met Dragon in an old warehouse. And the man’s similarities with the woman on the photo were just too obvious. He had the same emerald green eyes—which clearly showed the close relationship. And, although he had tried to conceal it, his behavior had hinted at it. The old man wanted Dragon to play babysitter for his little princess. She was hiding, probably gone into the shadows. She had conflicts with superiors in the military—immersed he’d called it.The younger one had added that Atztech, a Mexican concern, had set a bounty on her head—five hundred thousand NewYen, a considerable sum. Most runners would have taken her immediately to those Mexican roaches.

The two knew exactly why they’d chosen him. He would never run for Atztech, he hated them and always was happy when he could piss them off. He was also known reliable. And once Dragon accepted a task, he fulfilled it, even if he had to do it alone in the end.Dragon wondered why Atztech had imposed such a horrendous bounty on the girl. She must have done something really bad or she had something the Azzies really wanted back, but whatever the reason.
"Oh Drek, playing babysitter." Dragon laughed bitterly.
"What's wrong with you?" Sparrow, who’d been sitting silently on the leather couch all along while reading, looked up.
"Nothing, everything is perfect, as always. I'm just not used to watching the ass of other runners. Or am I?" Dragon cocked an eyebrow and looked at Sparrow.
"Very funny!" Irritated, Sparrow turned back to his book.
"One day, I'll burn your ass off." Sparrow muttered to himself.
Dragon glanced at the Shaman for a moment, then went to the kitchen to get something to drink. Sparrow … a slight grin appeared on Dragon's lips.Sparrow now would fake a scowl for some minutes. that such jokes didn't really upset the red-haired Shaman—Sparrow would merely go along with the joke by pretending to be insulted. Dragon opened a bottle of water and stared at the clear liquid for a moment before draining it. Unconsciously, he rubbed his neck, something he always did when he was deep in thoughts, and slowly walked back into the living room. He looked at his Chummer who was once again buried in his book.
"I need to pay Acid a visit. Are you coming? "Dragon leaned on the back of the couch and looked down at Sparrow.
Sparrow looked up and grimaced. He didn't seem to be looking forward to the visit.
"No, I'll stay here. I can't stand that bitch. Sorry, you'll have to go alone."
"As you wish.“ Dragon answered with a slight grin. „But I still need your help later on."
Dragon went to the wardrobe and took out his armored black leather coat. , armored. Sparrow stood watching him and slightly cocked his head.
"I'll be here. You be careful."
Dragon nodded wordlessly and left.

Half an hour later Dragon stood at Acid's door. She had a pretty little house in Bellevue, a nice and calm district of New Seattle. Dragon had taken the elf into his team 3 years ago and her hacking abilities had always come in handy—even though she was quite a bitch. Acid rarely left her house, preferring to live vicariously through the Matrix, which connected the whole virtual world.

Dragon rang the bell and after a few minutes heard the the lock buzz open. opener He pushed the door open and went straight into the living room. The room was filled with computers, cables, and monitors of different sizes. Dragon could even spot some drones lying on an old table. There he found the elf sitting on a chair, for once not connected to her system.
"What do you want?" She snapped at him.
Acid's name fitted her perfectly; she behaved just as disgustingly as it sounded. Which was one reason why Sparrow was probably smart not to have come along.
"I need you to find out something for me." Dragon cocked his head, something he often did when he wanted something.
"Name? Or anything else you know." Acid always came straight to the point, she didn't like any social interactions and wanted to keep them as short as possible. Dragon knew this, but it amused him to come himself when a call would have been sufficient.
Dragon gave her the information he had and handed her the photo.
"I want to know who the women is and why Atztech wants her ass so badly, whom she cooperates with, and where I can find her."
Dragon waited a moment for Acid's reaction, but there wasn't one. Acid stared at him, but then dropped her eyes. Most people had trouble looking into his eyes for any length of time - his irises were pure silver and if you looked at them long enough the silver seemed to move.
"How long?" He asked gravely.
"Give me a few hours." Acid got up and went toward her office.
"If you want a drink, then you feel free to get you some. I guess you want to wait, as always."
The biting tone of her voice made obvious she didn't like it, but Dragon didn't care as long as she did her job.
"Thank you my dear." He answered sarcastically, sat down on the couch, and turned on the TRI-D.

Dragon had already zapped several times through the channels, when Acid came back towards evening with a memory stick and threw it at Dragon. He caught it nimbly and slipped it in his jacket."You'll have everything I could find on the stick." Acid nodded in the direction of where Dragon put the stick
"The girl is called Raven. She is currently working with three other runners. One is a hermetic, Ghost, white-haired elf; the second is called Quick Shoot, Street Samurai, dark hair, a former security officer; the last is an orc, Sugar Ray. As far as I know, the orc was killed a few days ago in his restaurant. Seems like he wanted to leave his former live behind but his whole shack was blasted.
"Hmmm." Dragon frowned."But how does Atztech fit in all of this?"
"They have set a bounty of five hundred thousand New Yen on each of them, very tempting. Are you after the money? " Acid grinned.
"You know perfectly well that I do not help those fucking bastards and and I wouldn't even if Dunkelzahn himself threw his entire treasure at my feet” Dragon's eyes darkened.
"It's all right, pissed?" Acid asked, still grinning.
"Oh, and just how do you come to that conclusion?" Dragon wanted to get away before he did something stupid. The stupid cow always had to overdo it. Someday she'd taunt him one time too many and he'd put a bullet in her head.
"Here's your money," he tossed a Kredstick on the table and walked to the door. He turned again and looked at Acid."And remember, keep your mouth shut."
Dragon slammed the door and stalked angrily to his car.He let the tires spin on his silver Ford GT before racing it down the street. But the rush-hour traffic stopped his headlong pace all too soon.

"Idiots, all too stupid to drive!" Dragon let his anger rage. It took him 2 hours to get home. His stomach was still tied up in knots when he entered the apartment—which Sparrow quickly realized.Sparrow buried himself deeper into the couch and focused on the documentary in the TRI-D.
"Next time I tear her head off !" Dragon threw his coat beside Sparrow on the couch and plopped down in the leather chair.
"There's something to eat in the kitchen. I've already eaten, and it would probably be a good idea for you to eat too. I suggested you probably want something too." Sparrow gave him a wary look.
"Thanks, maybe later," grumbled Dragon.
"Did you get some information?"
"Yes" Dragon was staring at his hands."Her name is Raven. Do you know that name?"
"Raven" Sparrow thought for a moment."No, never heard of someone using it."
Dragon run his fingers through his dark blond hair.
"Give me the stick out of my jacket."
Sparrow fumbled the stick out of Dragon's jacket and gave it to him.
He plugged the stick into his pocket computer, which lay before him on the table. Silently Dragon browsed through the information Acid had given him.
"Hmmm. According to the data Acid found, Raven and her team must have stolen important research data from the Azzies."
"Her team?" Sparrow looked puzzled.
Dragon nodded." According to Acid, one was bombed to hell and back and the rest now have a bounty on their heads—five hundred thousand New Yen."
"That's a lot and I know a lot people who would gladly take the money." Sparrow was still looking at his Chummer, who looked intently at the small computer monitor.
"But actually Raven should be able to take care of herself." Dragon stated.
"She was able to enter the Aztech facility undetected and should also be able to for a while until things settle down. Daddy probably doesn't believe in the abilities of his daughter."
"Well, there are parents who are worried about their children." The shaman answered.
"As long as the old man pays enough, I don't care." Dragon again focused on the data. Tomorrow he'd probably ask around to see if anyone had seen either of the two remaining runners so he could find Raven. But he'd have to be careful. It was important that she didn't notice any of his activities.

Chapter 2

Dragon parked near the Black Mamba. One of his contacts had tipped him that it was frequented by employees of Atztech. He needed to know what exactly happened, what Raven's team had stolen, to get a better picture of the whole situation and to get a better fix on Raven's whereabouts. Unfortunately, his research had revealed nothing and her father and the other guy in the photo didn't know where she could be.
Dragon headed for the entrance of the bar, which was flanked by a Troll on the right and a Norm on the left. The troll was probably wired. Dragon couldn’t see any enhancements on the Norm, but not seeing any didn’t indicate he had none. Dragon himself had biological and cybernetic enhancements. He also noted that both bouncers were carrying. Dragon gave the troll a short nod and the troll let him pass.

As Dragon entered the bar, a cloud of perfume came rolling towards him, apparently from a woman standing near the entrance. At this time of the day, the Black Mamba was well attended with many of its tables occupied. In the center, was a huge circular bar. This bar was made of synthetic wood and the giant snake made of the same material winding around it gave the bar its name. Two bartenders were busy mixing drinks for the guests waiting at the bar and several serving girls hurried around in their tight skirts and tops providing orders to the guests sitting at tables. In the middle of the back wall a door led to the courtyard. Through it, Dragon could see some people smoking.
Dragon noticed one of the serving girls complaining to one of the bartenders. He headed silently for the bar and seated himself nearby. Her comments about one of the guests who had offended her were vitriolic and she didn’t want to serve that, as she said, bastard, anymore.

Sanchez had just ordered a new Martini from one of the serving girls, a little blonde who'd boosted her breasts with silicone. He liked big tits and anyone who looked like that obviously wanted a man's attention. So when she turned to fetch his drink he'd grabbed her ass for a feel. When she'd looked at him in horror, he'd only smirked back.
Sanchez concentrated on her cute little ass as she marched to the bar and started arguing about something with a bartender. Sanchez snorted when his view was blocked as a tall, slender man dressed all in black came in and sat next to the pair. The blonde looked like one of those pretty boys woman would go crazy over. Sanchez didn't like him.

To be continued...

An example what he will look like:
