One Day I'll Sing Again

Iliad's home is an island forgotten over time and believed to be nothing more than a myth these days. Visitors to the islands were far between, some didn't even want to leave and few of the natives were capable of leaving on their own with little knowledge of the world past the great sea. Iliad decided in his youth he wished to go out and explore, but his home remained in his heart and he hoped to renew the wonder of his island to outsiders who might return prosperity to it.

The weather is beautiful year around and it made the island an ideal vacation and get-away spot. Iliad played a big role in this, he was one of only a few ambassadors who not only learned of the outside world but decided to travel it and spread information about his home. He loved to travel, his parents often told him he would look to the skies in the evening, counting the stars with a goal to visit as many places as he could count stars.

He was still a boy, not yet an adult, when his parents were taken, the storms were so rare and the family unprepared and they were swept away, never to be seen again - claimed by the sea. He was already in school, training for his role as an ambassador and it was his studies that kept his thoughts clear even in those times of sadness. He mourned his parents and then continued on with his life knowing they would not want him to dwell - the outside world was nearly within his reach. He graduated at the top of his class, a master of multiple languages, a gracious and friendly fellow and a natural charmer. He continued his studies in languages even after graduating and continues to learn new ones every chance he gets.

Paralian's (the name given to Iliad's people meaning a person who lives near the sea) were a unique folk, their natural charms are something akin to the abilities of the mythical siren. They are all remarkably good-looking and their voices have a strange affect on people not of their own race. Of course, some are more easily affected than others, but not completely immune to the strange undertones. Depending on his way of dress it was easy for Iliad to be mistaken for a female, it often happened because of his tendency to wear ceremonial type robes for his work. Always concealed under the fabrics were the unique, and often intricate body painting, a tradition of his people he kept, the paints would gradually wear off and he would paint a new masterpiece each time.

The end of his career as an ambassador was marked by blood and murder. He was arrested in his chambers early one morning, still groggy with sleep and unable to fight off the arresting officers as he was bound and gagged and locked away. It was some hours later before he would learn he was being charged with the murder of a nobleman he had dealt with. To this day he does not know who framed him, and the judge wouldn't allow him to defend himself because his testimony would be tainted by the affects of his voice. His own appointed defender did nothing to help his case and he was condemned to a life sentence in a high security prison where he was to be transported...

But his story is far from over.
